Bedard is the one thing on this team I’m not worried about at all

But according to Doms model for the Calder, Bedard is not even top 5. Wtf is this guy doing anymore?

I’m glad he made this follow-up article. I was a little annoyed the other day when he had Bedard ranked 9th in the Calder race, without really looking into why his numbers said that. A lot of these advanced stats guys will just say, “Well the model says it’s true, therefore it is”, so props to him for admitting that the model isn’t perfect in extreme cases like Bedard (who is clearly the top rookie this year).

The kid’s first shift was L1 v L1 against a future hall of famer. And it hasn’t gotten much easier since then, if at all(except not everyone is Sid). I haven’t been following the other rooks that much, I wonder where Karlsson and Fantilli would be on this chart.

I just don’t want him getting frustrated. I know we’re not gonna be bad forever but you can see that each loss aggravates him and I don’t want him to feel like our organization isn’t a good long term fit for him, especially after the Perry fiasco.

I liked the team KD assembled. But man, maybe we should have brought in just a little more talent looking at it with hindsight.

They hammered this team with tough schedule so they could showcase Bedard on as much media outlets in US and CA as possible to begin with. He is the real deal and will be a leader on this team in the future.

Gretzky said that he’s never seen such a tough opening stretch like Bedard’s was for a 1st overall pick. They put this kid through a gauntlet and a majority of them were on the road with all the eyes on Bedard from the beginning.

Bedard is gonna dominate the league once he’s playing with elite talent, he’s proven already that he’s a driver of play. The next couple of years are gonna be rough with this team still being in the early stages of rebuilding though.
