I dont know how much revenue is generate by the gambling apps and sports betting in general but i would imagine its very lucrative and a fairly large percentage of the NHL revenue stream.
Pinto is the message boy to the rest of the players, but 41 games is sort of light compared to other similar infractions across other leagues like NFL and NBA.
This is not the same thing as illegally hutting a player and getting suspended. If the gambling apps and sports betting decide to revoke the NHL as an option to bet on could you imagine the revenue lost? It wouldnt surprise me if sports gambling and betting apps account for hundreds of millions if not billions of dollars in revenue.
Its why the NBA and NFL and MLB have harsher penalties for violating gambling rules. Ive heard stories of players getting suspended a full season or multiple seasons. This is light.
