Kyle Okposo incident with Cale Makar – Tough Call Review

Kyle Okposo demonstrates a real problem area for NHL officials with this play involving Cale Makar. There’s such a fine line at these speeds with how much even the most mundane hockey play can become horrifically dangerous.

  1. Okposo knew exactly what he was doing. He's been around long enough. It might be simple as "no contact" on these types of plays heading to the boards. If you're beat, you're beat, and Okposo was beat. He did what they all do, yes, but its dangerous as heck to do, as evidenced by this and many other race to the pucks. I'm sure some neckbeard will tell me that isn't real hockey anymore, well, helmets weren't required until recently, visors even more recently, no touch icing is fairly new… Does anyone complain about those safety measures anymore? How many amazing plays did we miss out on because of no-touch icing? Zero. How many severe injuries have we missed out on? Lots.

  2. If you don't see the infraction that would result in a suspension then you are too st 00pid for words. No "fine line" here. Just another creep who thinks attempting to be edgy or relevant will result in subs. crikey

  3. thats just the physicallity of hockey, and you are legally allowed to push guys with the puck. just an unfortunate event with no penalty

  4. Makar had his legs in an awkward position prior to contact. he loses his edge before hitting the red line and I can't say he lost that edge because of contact. Makar has also been around long enough to know contact is coming and how to position himself to not end up in the boards any time he battles for a puck. At full speed there isn't enough there to make a call.

  5. I mean either way but just don’t like seeing makar go down from already an out of sync game they clearly were not prepared for
