Devils Defeat The Kraken: Simon Nemec Scored His First Career NHL Goal & Akira Schmid Was Lights Out

The New Jersey Devils have now won five of their last six games. They narrowly defeated a desperate Seattle Kraken team by a score of 2-1. It wasn’t easy, but Akira Schmid was able to keep the Kraken at bay, especially in the third period. Ondrej Palat continues to work well with Jesper Bratt and Nico Hischier. It was also another impressive showing by Simon Nemec since he scored his first career NHL goal.

Recorded live from Climate Pledge Arena (Seattle, WA)

Interview soundbites: Simon Nemec, Ondrej Palat, Akira Schmid, Lindy Ruff, Dave Hakstol, and Oliver Bjorkstrand

  1. Nemec is bringing energy and trying to prove he belongs here. I LOVE it!
We still need more sandpaper in the lineup on Defence (Chris Tanev!!!) but the team is playing better, not great… but better.

Hamilton, unfortunately is a LAZY liability… sorry Trey… I know you LOVE 😍 him. But the guy is soft and lazy.

Trade Dougie, and free up that cap space.

Let Schmid run with it for better or for worse and let him develop here.

    LGD!!!

  2. It was a very difficult game to watch due to the lack of puck control during the latter two periods. I have never seen so many posts and crossbars hit by the opposition. But your analysis is right on with the exception that I would have rated their performance a C last night.

  3. I’d give them a c grade. Offense was flat and defense was sloppy still. Schmid was our defense that game. We have long ways to go.

  4. Think Akira changed his style a little. Like he doesn't go to the ground immediately at every chance. Instead he concentrates more on his glove. Which looked a little weird at times, but it worked.

  5. Remember what Jack Hughes said in an on ice interview with ESPN early in the season. When asked about a cup run this year, he replied with "We still have a lot of work to do".

Fast forward to last night, Akira Schmid echoed the same sentiment. There's a lot of room for improvement. Schmid was solid, but the win shouldn't hinge on him solely.

  6. Hischier makes every player that plays with him look like a superstar. Just remember how he made Hall the MVP in his rookie season.

  7. Palat's offensive game is just as terrible as it was last year. No difference. It's 6 million per year for a 3rd line caliber winger that produces offense like a 4th line winger. He's as remarkable as vanilla ice cream on a white plate.
