A scary moment as Johnny Boychuk takes Artturi Lehkonen’s skate up high, he immediately gets off the ice to get the situation checked out.

Nhl players should wear cages there would never been any face injuries
I kinda wish that was Tom Wilson instead.
Sad to see this was his last shift.
Just announced a few minutes ago that Johnny Boychuk has been forced to retire due to this injury.
A great islander and one of my favorites . Thanks for the memories Johnny rocket đ
Sad to see you retire #isles
Anyone here after hearing the news of his retirement?
Damn Johnny Boychuk has announced retirementđ
And to look at this knowing that this is what ended his career is sad. He was a hell of a player. Gonna miss him. Happy retirement #55
He had a great career sad that this was the way that it ended
Who's here after he retired
Just retired because of this. Scary stuff
This is the eye injury that ended Johnny Boychukâs career.
We love you Johnny. Get well soon.
Johnny Boychuk just called it a career today because of this. Thanks for everything Johnny Rocket.
Everyone here cuz he just retired? Even though im a habs fan and hated him when he was a bruin…respected hockey player all the way..hope ur okayđđŒ
Just herd the news his career is over didnât expect to see this video to be this gut punching. Hope he can still see and live life as he did before peacefully.
Congrats on a great career Johnny. Sucks it had to end this way. Thanks so much for your time on the isles, youâre a warrior and will always be one of my favorite players.
Unfortunate that this freak accident ended his career.
You hate to see it
great career and a great player, he will be missed
He retired………….
If the league had shutdown 2 weeks prior he'd still be playing. That is so unfortunate and such a brutal injury that will affect him for the rest of his life. So unfortunate great career cut short
Sad to think this ended his career
Damn dude. This ended the career of someone that was involved in my childhood era of hockey. New players coming in and old players leaving. Sad to see it happen this way.
âHopefully heâs okayâ well that didnât age well
So sad to hear his career is over
It's understandable that people is mostly concerned of Boychuck, but I can't but think how terrible Lehkonen must have felt when that happened, and how he feels now. Of course it was an accident but still. Take care guys, both of you.
It ended up being a career ending injury. Brutal way to go out. You will be missed Johnny đ.
Control your legs you chode, geez
It was Boychuk's and Varrlamov's fault.
Why is Boychuk still on the Islanders roster? Long term injury reserve, so not playing but getting a paycheck, the Islanders needed his contract money to give them some money to sign a player that could help them out. Replacing Boychuk would be almost impossible and wish it never happened to him but I want to see the Islanders win.
Not even SKI GOGGLES??? – BOO!!!
I'm surprised mandatory face cages aren't a more talked about topic these days….
Damn, that was like a legit kick to the face with a blade. I'm suprised it wasn't even worse
Miss the guy, âA JOHNNY ROCKETâ-Jack Edwards
Time for all helmets to have cages. Getting maimed is asinine
Its wasn't 62s fault he fell over the islanders goalie leg gear.
What goes around comes around. Definition of karma for this POS
I mean, if the tendy hadnât tripped LehkyâŠ
Hockey players should wear fish tank helmets 1:25
i know him
i dont get why pros dont wear neckguards or cages beyond it being "not cool"
