Tage Thompson injured by Charlie McAvoy – Have your say!

Tage Thompson will miss “significant time” after being injured twice in the same game. The second was a blocked shot off the wrist. The first one was this lower body injury after appearing to get his foot clipped with the skate of Charlie McAvoy. He missed part of the game after this but did eventually return. There was no penalty called on this play. Should anything come of it or was it just an unfortunate collision? Have your say!

  1. I can't really see a penalty by McAvoy here. Thompson made a move on him, McAvoy got off balance trying to correct and their feet just connected. Incidental contact. I wouldn't even say he kicked his foot out, he's literally just trying to pivot.

  2. McAvoy being dirty again, this is basically a minutare version of what killed Adam Johnson. He lifted his skate blade to make contact with Thompson because he'd been beat. If they gave Draisaitl (sp) 5K for his "trip", this should at least get that.

  3. This doesn’t seem dirty to me, but McAvoy’s out of position, and tries to use his stick to make up for it. I could see it being a two minute minor call for hooking or maybe a trip, but it doesn’t warrant anything else to me.

  4. This is a classic “Tripping” penalty.🙄

What makes it worse is that dude appears to have a scoring chance. It’s not about the intent of the defender, but also about the effect of the violation on the play in question.💯

It’s quite easy to commit a foul, in hockey, without meaning it. Legs, arms, uniforms and sticks can become tangled regularly. I’ve seen players concuss opponents without ever seeing them. Depending on the effect the concussion had on the ACTUAL play in question, that should determine whether, or not a player can be penalized.🤷🏾‍♂️

  5. I’ve seen similar situations go called and go uncalled for tripping. In real time and slow motion I agree with the ref this time, no penalty

  6. Tf you mean you be the judge?? Don’t be soft it’s a typical poke check swipe with one hand on his stick.. dudes leg must be made of cotton candy

  7. idek how he got injured off that… just an unlucky injury. I don’t think Charlie rly did anything wrong. Anytime that happens to me I’m fine.

  8. Folks, Intent is not part of the rule, tripping is tripping. Think about it this way, you have your stick on the ice and someone steps on the stick headed to the net with the puck, there is no intent there but that is a call. Stop the Video at 2 seconds, skate on skate and he goes down…..

  9. No penalty there! Shit like that happens every game!? Sometimes it might be called a penalty sometimes it won't but that was good no call there!?

  10. Penalty. McAvoy shouldn't be sticking his leg out like that to 'stop someone'. The only way your leg stops anyone when out that far is by tripping them. Looks like he was going for a knee too.
