This has a lot more to do with the NHL making themselves so inaccessible and the horrible marketing. Fastest team sport on earth, with hits, fights, dirty fuckin dangles, and the US generally prefers baseball and football over all of the action hockey brings. Hockey needs to be more accessible for everyone, and promo the cities where they struggle to get people through the door. Make people love it. Baseball is cheaper to get yourself set up to play, cheaper to watch live, and seemingly easier to find on TV.
