Found the answer myself. It is goals "saved" above expected and in that case -1 is better than -3.
Ryan Johnson comes into the league older and more mature than the average rookie defenseman. Four years of experience at a top-notch D1 program at Minnesota under his belt.
He was used primarily in a defensive role on a stacked Gophers team. Not really sure what kind of offensive upside he has, but that stretch pass to set up Skinner's goal was absolutely sublime.
If he sticks and is effective, Bryson stays out of the lineup. That's a good thing, especially while Sammy gets healthy.
