When will the Dallas Stars fix their defense?? | Stars comeback falls short in Florida

The Dallas Stars comeback falls short against the Florida Panthers last night. Jake Oettinger gave up five goals and the defense of Miro Heiskanen and Ryan Suter continues to be a problem lately. On today’s episode of Locked On Stars, Joey shares his frustrations with the Stars not being ready to play in the first two periods and the same problems occurring over and over again. The Stars made a good push late with goals from Mason Marchment, Evgenii Dadonov in his return and Thomas Harley, but it was not enough. How long will it take for Dallas to solve these issues before its too late. On the bright side, the power play scored twice and offense showed some life in the final 20 minutes. Matt Duchene’s line seems to be the only trio that consistently has energy and creating chances, however Tyler Seguin left the game in the 3rd after taking a stick up high and did not return. Finally, Joey previews the Washington Capitals who await the Stars tonight and are the 31st worst scoring team in the league this season, but mostly due to injuries of key players. Their net-minder Charlie Lindgren has provided a spark for them and the Stars must solve him.

  1. I’m glad you brought up the sam steel thing. I’m not one to blame the officials for losses. That one was just so frustrating though. They called retaliation earlier, but couldn’t do the same for Sam. Ultimately though, I don’t think it would’ve changed the outcome.

  2. I love the my Stars but I feel like we’re to soft. We get pushed around to much. We have problems against bigger teams. We need some physicality, a big hit or something.

  3. We need big changes at or before the trade deadline.

Two things: find the perfect right handed Dman for Miro.

In the process, get some of these roster spots cleared so we can bring up Bourque and Stankoven.

Lastly: The Avengers line needs to start producing or we are going nowhere.

  4. This is the big slide that I think many of us thought might be coming this season. We have eeked out some wins this season but I think I have have only seen the squad play solid 60 min in a handful of games. The games against the Jets, the Rangers and Lightning (first game). Any team can steal some games but the Stars have looked awful in some of these losses. Still a lot of hockey left so I am hopeful they can get it sorted out.

  5. If we can’t make a trade I would like to see a roster shake up to inject some energy. Bring up one of Borque or Stanky to play with Wyatt and Benn and drop Dady to the 4th line.

Finding 2 top 4 RH D men is a must to play with Harls and Miro. Jim Nill’s got his work cut out again

  6. This is NOT a scoring defense. Miro is NOT a goal-scoring d-man. I'm not sure why everyone thought he would be. He is playing too many minutes bc of his defense and mobility, but he needs a scoring d-man next to him. Harley MIGHT be a goal-scoring d-man, we shall see, but you need a solid d-man next to him. He and Miro probably should not be paired, at least not often. Once again we are at the mercy of contracts (Suter and Benn) and more contracts (the ones that Roope and Robo are not earning this year). The team lacks consistent aggression and snarl. FLA pushed us around all night last night. Remains to be seen how this team progresses. I am cautiously optimistic at the moment.

  7. Change up the pairings on defense, maybe that will work. I think Miro is getting tired of being paired with Suter. Jake Oettinger hasn’t been playing up to his full potential but he does keep the Stars in games more often than not gives them the best chance to win 🥇.

  8. Glad you mentioned Miro being a shinpad assassin so far this season. There's no doubt he's our best d-man, but I wonder if they shouldn't give Harley a shot on the top PP. Harley is actually great at getting shots through and finding holes and multiple times this season we've him score on shots that sneak through from the point or have his shots deflected in front by Pavs or whoever for goals. I doubt DeBoer will go down that road anytime soon but I really believe that would be at least worth a shot.
