The Matthew Poitras Benching…

Matthew Poitras was benched for the 3rd period of the Arizona Coyotes game for the Boston Bruins. Did that benching make sense?

  1. I don't think I'd take it personally if I was him. The game needed to be won. We were losing momentum game-to-game wise. He wasn't doing terribly. But he wasn't doing great.. and we're "short staffed" to say the least.

Personally. I think fans are getting a little too up tight about it. Good video 👍

  2. I did not watch the game, but just a general comment. You want the young guys to develop, but develop with the proper habits. If the coach feels that the player may be cheating things or doing things out of fear, developing high-risk and reactionary habits, that cause him to get caught out of position or other things. Then better take him out. Ground him, review the film, and do it right.

  3. If he's a healthy scratch next game, or keeps getting benched, it might be something to sweat about

Perhaps he wanted him to sit rinkside to watch and learn.

He has seen Matt play well, and not – I'll trust Monty's vision until further notice

perhaps he knows his tells… Don't let Matt do more damage to his confidence or stats

We'll find out if he's a healthy scratch next game,

How many times have we heard bruins were going to tank because they needed to rebuild 🙄

They're "rebuilding" right in front of our eyes

this young man evidently has hockey vision and wisdom beyond his age.

I think he'd rather be sitting on an NHL bench then OHL or AHL.
Or watching the game from the press box

    Not worried about him…
As long as he's having fun.

Because the bruins are still winning

This is the time to play around, figure things out.

After new years? Time to get down to business.

  4. If the Bruins weren't struggling over the last 10 games or so I would agree with you.
    But they are.
By the way Poitras is one of the smartest young Bruins I have seen in a long while.
He'll be a player to reckon with for years to come. Hopefully as a BRUIN. Go the Black & Gold.

  5. Poitras has made some HORRIBLE mistakes…but has made some AMAZING plays.
Don't "bench" him…worst case, "demote" him.

  6. Oh, separate comment….
    1. I hate your beard…because I can't grow one (tried for 50+ years…ain't happening),
    2. I also HATE ball caps that aren't curved…as God intended!!!
(BTW, this comment was 100% Masshole)
    still loved the channel!!!

  7. I didn’t know why he was benched. I thought he was playing well enough. He got an assist in the game.
So far every game I have watched I have liked what I have seen from Poitras. He looks like a young promising player.
But I’m just a fan watching. I don’t really know what’s happening behind the scenes or maybe even down at ice level. I hope it works out for poitras I’m a fan.

  8. He does make some stupid plays at times.. mostly rookie mistakes.. BUT he is exactly that.. a rookie. The only way you can truly learn and get better is by playing. Classroom teaching can help give you the knowledge and IQ for the game… but still needs to be put into real scenarios. You get that by playing. Have there been times where he should have been benched? Yes, absolutely. But i don't think benching for a whole period is helpful in the long run.

My opinion is Monty is doing all these things to try and find 'his method' of coaching the team this year. His decisions this season will and do have more of an impact on gameplay and whatnot.
Last season he didn't really need to worry about that, that much.. the team was just that good that it didn't matter what we did, everyone produced on every line. This season though has been different. Goaltending having a little slump(still really good though, no doubt on that) The defense breaking down.. really bad at times. The turnovers are killing us though.. But i still have no doubts they'll get into the playoffs… but that's where they really need to shine and no repeat last season. lol.
