Alex Pietrangelo slash on Leon Draisaitl – Tough Call Suspension Recommendation

Alex Pietrangelo goes out of his way to take a large two handed backswing chop at Leon Draisaitl’s arm. This is a no doubter.

  1. This will set a dangerous precedent if taking out the #1 scorer of the opposing team goes unpunished or you get a minor 1-2 game suspension. 5-10 games definitely.

  2. While I don't think Pietrangelo should have done this, refs missed a boarding call where he was boarded. They also didn't call the major back check of Mark Stone into the goal post by Yamamoto. Darnel Nurse elbow into Hague in the end of the 3rd that led to that fight? That was missed too. If we want dangerous stuff avoided, stop missing major calls to get NHL super stars their glory.

  3. Huge Pietrangelo fan here. Suspend him. He did it out of frustration for the blatant boarding that was missed on the Kane hit and took it into his own hands to exact revenge but he still needs to be suspended. Kane has cross check multiple Vegas players in the face this round and has had multiple questionable hits. I wouldn’t doubt it if Vegas targets him next game. If refs call potential neck breaking plays then Pietrangelo wouldn’t take it into his own hands. Again, he deserves a game or two.

  4. If he hits Drai in the head here it would be similar to McSorley on Brashear. He's luckly Draisaitl didn't flinch forward during the swing. It is clear intent to injure and she should be at least suspended 3 games.

  5. I don’t see how they justify less than 3 games when Bunting, who’s infraction was less egregious, got three. I understand the frustration boiling over, I’ve been disgusted with the way the games are being called, but Pietrangelo made the conscious choice to track Draisaitl down after the play and injure him. The intent was clear, the action was ludicrous. It should be three plus games.

  6. The meth freaks and career goons in the DoPS gave him one game……no more than Nurse who engaged in an arranged fight with a willing opponent.

Hard to take the NHL as anything but a bush league.

  7. Really doesn’t matter how many games he deserves, it’s about what makes a player want to do such a thing. The NHL referee’s are letting to many infractions go uncalled, it creates an atmosphere of frustration and anger amongst the players, they are hockey players not gladiators. Time for the NHL to be libel in a court of law for these types of assaults that you or I would be changed with.

  8. The only way they can even try to justify giving only one game (even by actual standards, rather than Tough Call standards) is that Draisaitl is saying he's not injured. But it shouldn't matter. He essentially skated across the ice, past the puck, past two teammates who had already started turning towards the puck, and did an overhead-axe-chop on a guy. This should have been a minimum 2 games, even accounting for the idea that playoff games are worth more, and even accounting for the light suspensions DoPS has been handing out. They were obviously afraid to hand out a suspension that could potentially be seen as a series-alterning decision. …but the whole point of penalties and suspensions is that they DO affect the team. Come on DoPS/NHL…
