What is Jim Montgomery Doing with Matt Poitras? | Bruins Beat

Evan Marinofsky is joined today by Conor Ryan of Boston.com to discuss Jim Montgomery’s management of Bruins’ rookie Matt Poitras. In close late game situations, Poitras hasn’t seen the ice. Fans seem to be increasingly upset about the coach’s decision, but is Monty correct in his decision-making? That, and much more!

  1. Man up guys, nothing wrong with being benched. You all grew up babied. ITS a MANS GAME!! The kid will be better for it

  2. Am I watching a different game than Bruins coaching? Poitras is consistently one of our most dynamic puck carriers, zone transition players, creative forces in the O-Zone. Does he need to work on a few things – especially turnover timing (Florida Barkov, Coyotes Carcone come to mind) – sure. But he's a 19 year old rookie who will only improve and be ready for the playoffs BY PLAYING. And if it wasn't obvious, we need his offensive skill in the lineup. Not Morgan f*n Geekie who is a black hole for offense and creativity. Where the puck goes to die, featuring Morgan Geekie.

  3. Team lacks fire. Lucic brings more intensity, losing his phone than this team does on the ice.

  4. No. The Jacobs mandate has always been: "MAKE THE PLAYOFFS so I can sell more concessions and parking." Jacobs hasn't EVER cared if the B's win the cup or not. Especially in the pre-cap era. Long as Sweeney and Neely deliver that, only the coaching will change.

  5. Montgomery trying to win the regular season again. Keeps these young kids in and get them to where you hope they will be by playoff time. NOW IS the time to develop these youngsters. Rule used to be 200 played games for a D'man before they were expected to be mistake free. NOW, 2 months at 19 years of age. Keep Potsie in.

  6. It’s not like Poitras is the biggest defensive liability on the team. Monty is a bonehead. Poitras is one of the most dynamic forwards on the team. Maybe Monty should get benched especially after his coaching performance in last years playoffs.
