This is a good problem to have..

OK Guys, today I wanted to take a look at the Montréal Canadiens blueline. Rookie defensemen Jayden Struble has caught everyone’s attention over the past couple of weeks, and Kent Hughes recently said during an interview on the @TheSickPodcastTheEyeTest that Lane Hutson may be signed immediately after this season is over for Boston University.. Bulk Defensemen, a good problem to have?

The articles that were in the video were screenshots from Habsfanatics.com, I highly reccommend you to check out this site for further Habs News,

  1. Honestly,
I would let the kids play in Laval, make the AHL team better and hopefully have the kids experience pro playoffs.
Keep Matheson, Savard, Lindstrom, Ghule, Kovacevic and Struble in Montreal.
Than, in the AHL, you can have Xhekaj, Harris (when healthy), Barron, Maillou, Trudeau and Galipeau.
Dobes and Mann have got little to not help from their team so far this year.

  2. Lane should be tried out as a left winger. with his talent and puck handling he would be a great line mate for Cole and Nick.

  3. What’s so interesting about Kent Hughes works so far is that we have a lotttt of trade capital. You can package a D with Allen for a good return, you have so many possibilities to improve the team (D-man and picks mostly).

  4. It’s not a good problem , Hutson won’t agree to play college next year and the habs will not take a chance and lose him the season after , so they’re gonna sign him, then you got Mailloux and engstrom who are probably ready , Vogo in Russia, the habs could have 12 nhl ready defensemen as soon as next season , so therefore the habs will be forced into trading a few à them without having a chance to evaluate them properly , did they need to draft Reinbacher?🤦‍♂🤦‍♂🤦‍♂

Kovacecik, Harris, Mailloux, Guhle, struble, engstrom, vogo , Trudeau, xhekaj, Norlinder, Savard, matheson , Hutson , reinbacher

I’m pretty sure the habs will botch a few of those trades

  5. In 3yrs, the D corp will be Hutson, Reinbacher, Mailloux, Struble, Xhekaj, Guhle, Trudeau

Hutson may get a crack at the Habs towards the end of the season, but likely plays in Laval next year, if he signs.

Of course, if he comes out of training camp lighting up the scoreboard, then anything is possible.

Harris, Barron, Lidstrom, Kovacevic, Savard, Matheson will all be gone by then.

  6. I don't see Harris traded out soon, mix of his injury hindering interests and the 1.4M$ contract running until 2024-25 before RFA, too many teams are cap-tight.
If we're to add a D to a package trade i see it more likely to happen with Norlinder and Barron who've both not reached the level we wanted them to get to, still some hope with Barron, but Hutson and Mailloux show much more offensive upside while progressing at a quicker pace on their defense and leadership. I could see Lindstrom get extended cause he's been more than satisfying after no longer than a dozen game and we still need a few experienced guys along Matheson to carry those promising kids along. Loved to see Kovacevic extended for a couple years as well but i admit the likelihood of that happening is very slim.
I would also trade Savard asap, bigger contract to move out, but nowhere near Matheson's 4.8M, and he could be so very useful to a team going for a PO run looking for an offensive D veteran with decent defensive know-how with his kind of character and charisma. He could provide an interesting return (maybe even up to a 2nd rounder in this season's draft)

  7. In 2025-2026, I see
    Guhle-Mailloux
    Matheson-Reinbacher
    Xhekaj-Barron
Hutson will be there at some point maybe but he will possibly struggle defensively which means he could replace Matheson at some point. This is all speculative of course. Injuries, trades and development will affect massively this prediction. We have a lot of prospects at defense and this is all for the better for the habs.

  8. Where the hell does Mr Wifi fit into the piture? I guess he will have to move up to be a winger as suggested. Don't matter how you cut it he belongs up with the big club. ( Go Habs GO )

  9. matheson and savard are not the ones to trade, we need a mix of vets and rookies. Harris can fuck off and we keep Struble and hudson
