Cale Makar Receives 2021-22 Norris Trophy As NHL’s Top Defenceman
Colorado Avalanche defenceman Cale Makar thanks his teammates, organization and family after winning the 2021-22 James Norris Memorial Trophy presented by Calgary Flames assistant general manager Chris Snow and his family.
Not only did the right man win but an amazing man and his family brought awareness to ALS! Good on him, his family and the Calgary Flames! I’m an Avs fan and I speak for all of Colorado on this!
So touching seeing Chris Snow and his family. You never know what's going to happen in life. Makar and that Avs Defensive core is so young and the sky is the limit. Makar, Byram, Toews. It's just amazing this guy fell to fourth in the draft. You have to give Sakic credit for the team he built there in Denver. When Roy walked out on them, he left that franchise in shambles. This guy is going to be fun to watch for years to come.
Should've been co Norris winner with Roman and Cal! If Josi hadn't missed 2 games he probably would've hit a 100 pts a shame he gets nothing besides he did it on a way less talented team! What do you think there stats would look like if they switched teams???
Makar reminds me of Bobby Orr. He will never be Orr, but non the less he is very, very good! Orr only won the scoring championship twice. That will never be replicated by any D man.
WTF. As a Preds STH of 22 years, I have been furious that Shea Weber never once received the Norris for his defensive abilities. Now, seeing Roman Josi put up numbers not seen by a Dman in three decades on a traditionally lackluster offensive team devoid of the talents of say…a MacKinnon, Landeskog, or Rantanen…and you rob him. This is pure recency bias on display. Makar is a fantastic puck moving defenseman to be sure who will no doubt earn his hardware over the next two decades, but this is absurd.

It's hilarious how Cale is an absolute beast on the ice but here it's like me in my high school public speaking class. Reminds you how young he is. He's a remarkable young man, though – humble, soft spoken, lets his play speak for itself. A generational talent
Apparently, the voting for this award was close! Congratulations to Cale Makar, the winner of an award that people like Bobby Orr and Ray Bourque put integrity into.
This is the happiest year for this wonderful young man. He wins the Norris because he is definitely the best D man in the league, the Stanley Cup, and the Conn Smythe. Also bringing a horrible illness to people's awareness and he just seems like the nicest guy on earth boy next door type you'd want as your best friend. Cale is my fave!
