GAME RECAP: Penguins at Canadiens (12.13.23) | Crosby Ties Recchi For All-Time Points

After starting the dad’s trip in Pittsburgh last night, the Penguins and their fathers traveled to Montréal to take on the Canadiens. Montréal took an early 2-0 lead with goals from David Savard and Jayden Struble. Shortly after the Canadiens second goal, the Penguins got their first. Drew O’Connor’s shot on the net caused a scramble in front. Picking up the loose rebound was Sidney Crosby. This goal put him in a tie with Paul Coffee at 14th for most points in the NHL at 1,531. Shortly after Sean Monahan got Montréal’s third goal. In the beginning of the 2nd Penguins went on the power play. Looking to continue the momentum from yesterday’s game, Crosby collected a pass on the backdoor and dished the puck to Jake Guentzel in the high slot. Guentzel took a hard slap shot to blast it past Sam Montembeault. Crosby passed Coffee to take over the 14th spot with that assist. A short while later, the Penguins went back on the power play. Erik Karlsson passed the puck to Crosby at the blue line. He walked it to the middle of the ice, and with a screen in front, took a wrist shot to tie the game at 3-3. Crosby was now tied for 13th with Mark Recchi for all-time points with 1,533. Neither team scored in the 3rd period and for the 5th time this season, the Penguins were heading into overtime. The extra 5 minutes of hockey weren’t enough to determine a winner. The Penguins entered the longest shootout in the NHL this season so far with 12 rounds. Scoring for the Penguins were Kris Letang, Crosby, and Lars Eller. In the 12th round, Jansen Harkins got the game-winning goal. The Penguins won 4-3 and are now 2-0 for the dad’s trip.

  1. Man what a scary way to win. Our defense needs to pinch down more on the line. Just getting burnt up the wings craziness every other rush. Solid Net. Good win we needed that!

  2. My goodness! The Canadiens goal horn is terrible! If I wanted to listen to a car horn, I would just go do it myself.

  3. That goal horn needs a mute button! It goes on for entirely way too long and sounds like the car has crashed and the horn is stuck. Geesh.

  4. Come on Penguins, in your description It's Paul Coffey guys not coffee….. Although it's probably some 20 year old kid in charge of the penguins YouTube channel that doesn't even know anything about hockey haha.

  5. I blame the poor power play on the “ppg for pgh” call. It’s so bad, even the players don’t want to hear it

  6. Could this win be the straw that broke the camel’s back (the Pens overall floundering? The PP is back.

  7. Nice job neddy..way 2 stand your ground…sid the kid with amazing goal from difficult angle..good job boys..
