  1. Don’t need him. Need defense. Wings are the 2nd highest scoring team in the league without him in the lineup.

He was also called up via emergency conditions so they had to send him back down regardless.

  2. I knew this was coming, but that doesn't mean that I like it. He is good enough for the NHL, having him play in the AHL isn't doing anyone any good. I feel sorry for the kid. He's good enough to be on the middle 6, but that what happens when you don't have to clear waivers.

  3. This was expected, we're getting healthy with Compher and Kostin back tomorrow, then Larkin on Monday. Also, word is trade talks were paused during his time in the NHL and they will resume now that he's back in the AHL.

  4. I dunno I think he can play in the nhl but he banged in a couple of rebounds, not like he was driving a line and looking dangerous. He still makes bad plays on the boards, I just don't think he can be a guy who can play in your bottom six which means AHL.

  5. I understand this from a perspective of he's not a Steve Yzerman type of player. Berggren is one-dimensional. He is above average offensively but his defense is so-so and he is not engage at all physically. The Wings already have a player like that, his name is Alex DeBrincat, and Yzerman probably feels that this makes Berggren redundant.

  6. Probably means Larkin is coming back … Yzerman always says .. there’s no point in a guy riding the bench in the NHL when they need lots of minutes playing, therefore they play in the AHL. Players used to avg 5 years with the Griffins before making the team in the 90’s … that’s how they keep the farm stacked with quality NHL caliber players

  7. What is Yzerman doing now? The Red Wings will not make the playoffs anyways, STOP trying to make it happen by trading away our future.

  8. Its not strange, red wings are getting healthy, only have so many roster spots. kostin and most likely compher are back in the lineup tomorrow, berggren is waiver exempt.
    This was very much expected.
I dont like it, but this is the reality.

  9. He was on emergency call up. He had to go down. Doesn’t mean anything right now. Stevie Y has moves to make. Bergy made his case to stay and he should but got to make room for him.

  10. Last year of waiver exempt. May as well use it.
He may not like the situation but SY is in charge of the transactions.
If Jonatan is traded it has to be for a viable contributor, not draft picks.

  11. Compher coming back emergency over. He did fine on the Wings and will play more minutes in the AHL. Still not convinced on the trade talk rumors.

  12. CALLED UP TO AUDITION….for another team's GM that Stevie is discussing a trade with? Could Yzerman be using JB as trade bait for a defensive defenseman…..OR…..I HOPE………..A GOOD GOALIE?

  13. Wings have a lot of players whose contracts expire at the end of this season. Only need one of them to be let go to make room for Berggren on next year's roster. Provided he doesn't get traded.

  14. Lego, why do you keep pushing for defensive prospect trades with the Habs?

As far as I can see we have plenty of our own prospects, and our issues are with to many D-Men on the roster creating a log jam. How does adding more space to clear help the team?

  15. Hockey at the NHL level is a perishable skill for most normal players (not named Kane). Berggy isn't helped in development by playing 8 minutes a game. Better to be tearing it up in the AHL than ridin' the pine in the bigs. He's a good option if someone goes down and this keeps him sharp.

  16. Lego, m'guy… There's nothing strange about this. He won't keep scoring like this on his call up stint. He needs more development for his all around game. The wings are SO deep this year. Let him ripen. As far as the trade rumours, hold on to this talent!!!!

  17. I could see this playing out two ways, either this is a trade situation or there waiting for Perones contract to run out for him to leave for free agency and then Johnny Burgers can earn the 3rd W spot
