  1. the leafs have to look at how moving nylander can address their team's needs. if they can get a 1-2 defence man and bolster their draft pick cupboard which is bare it might not be the doom and gloom media and social media are making it out to be. they could come out of this in good shape. they have plenty of offence.

  2. The Marner / Nylander situation screams for the time of when no salary existed. Good teams now lose out on players, because of the salary cap. Toronto could afford to pay the salary of both players.

  3. If nylander isn't signed by mid January I start fielding offers. And considering the leafs organisational depth. I'm sure Treliving and Shanahan had these conversations going into the season. That if no progress is made on a new contract for nylander. Hell no longer have Shanahans trade protection.

  4. You really need to stop being biased because nylander I can understand but the home town boy who wants to remain a leaf

  5. If nylander doesn’t resign, the following year both Marner and Tavares are up. You would potentially have $17mil extra space to give Marner a raise. Sounds just like hockey media trying to stir the pot.

  6. Habs will give Nylander the 10 million he deserves! Leafs hesitating to a loyal player that says he wants to remain there speaks volumes, of just how loyal management is to him. Walk away Willie, you know your worth when management doesn’t!

  7. Another team will pay him double digits for his play. Then his points will drop off because he won't be playing with Mathews, Marner, and Tavares. His contract won't look so great after that.

  8. If nylander leafs doesnt mean marner walks AM is his best friend. If you trade willie you will get players back. Not necessarily a step back

  9. While I'd hate to see Nylander leave via free agency, I can't fault him for wanting to get paid for his talent. That's his prerogative. He's earned it! If Mitch follows and leaves, may as well do a full rebuild. That's Hockey

  10. Contracts should max out @10M so the wealth can be spread around to build a winning team T.O. Edm. …….

  11. Yeah i can see them not resigning nylander, but theyll get something for him.

One of the undervalued aspects of these contracts that the leafs have signed means there is minimal room for a raise.

Nylander only making 7 means aroind 3 or 4 million dollar raise. When matthews signed he signed for 13.2 something? Je was already at 11.6 though so thats only a raise of 1.6 million

Marner will only get around 1.5 million dollar raise aswell but that will be offset by tavares money coming off the books
