The Grand Rapids boys hockey team closed out the regular season with a 14-0 shutout over Duluth Denfeld at the IRA Civic Center in Grand Rapids.
After dropping three straight games, including a 4-1 loss to Cloquet-Esko-Carlton Tuesday, the Thunderhawks put relentless offensive pressure on the Hunters Thursday with 54 shots on goal.
Gavin Hain scored four goals for Grand Rapids, Jack Burnson had three and Jake Partlow picked up the shutout in goal with 11 saves.
Josh Carlson started the scoring with a goal two minutes in. At 5:33, Hain made it a 2-0 lead, then Micah Miller scored 17 seconds later. Drake Anderson scored at 8:40 and Burnson capped off the period, scoring with 39 seconds left to push the lead to 5-0.
Second period goals came from Jax Broking, John Stampohar, Burnson and Hain.
In the third period, Hain scored twice along with goals from Stampohar, Burnson and Kam Jaeger.
