L.A have 11 straight road games. They made NHL history. They beat the Kraken 3-2 in the shootout earlier today. Vancouver is in 2nd place in Pacific Div. L.A Kings are in 3rd place. The Sens need to stop giving out big contracts until the team proves it can win in the playoffs. Unless it is a HOF level player there is no reason to do it. It is hard for non playoff teams to trade away a good player but the sharks did the right thing trading Timo Meier. Timo is a good player but he is overpaid now IMO.
Non playoff teams need a GM / President / Head scout combo that can make the team better cheaply so it can become a playoff team cheaply. After they win 1 or 2 rounds in the playoffs you can finally consider paying them. The Sharks gave Hertl a big contract instead of trading him and even though he is probably having the best year of his sharks career the team is still bad and his cap could have been traded for prospects. The sharks last GM gave Hertl that extension when the sharks were already awful too making it even worse. On a playoff cup contending team Hertl and his contract would be way smarter but on the sharks he is just not. The sens should be able to relate.
Fans do not want to hear this stuff though as tons of Sens fans wanted to keep Karl and thought they lost the Karl trade when the sharks last GM was a total fool for doing that trade with you. The sens won that easily but messed it up giving out extensions when the team was not a legit cup contender.
