  1. The only reason Liljegren would be moved is to open up a slot in the D corps. At his salary he is a 3rd pairing defender who could play on any team in the league but 3rd pair guys are not overly valuable as trade chips. Being a young righty who has not quite reached his ceiling increases his value slightly but no one is trading for him unless other assets or factors are involved.
So the answer is yes he could be a trade chip but so could any other Leafs' defender not named Morgan Reilly, if the right deal comes along.

  2. I think it would be a mistake! I hate how critics are so critical of certain players and I really do not see the reason for getting rid of him.

  3. Liljegren might have the highest hockey IQ on the D core, why would u trade him? He's one of the better defenders and is fantastic breaking out of the zone. He's got a decent shot from the line, solid puck carrying ability. He's always safe, he dont turn it over, moves the puck very well. Makes no sense to move him. And dont try comparing Liljegren to Sandin, Sandin had some issues defending. Liljegren is much better defensively than Sandin and way safer all over the ice

  4. Most 3rd line Defenders can be had with a 3rd sometimes 4th round pick. I’d like to think Lilijgren is worth a 2nd on the market
Tanev (like many top 4 defenders are on deadline day) is worth a 1st on the market.

There is some cap space now since Klingberg took off to the island and his 4.1 is on IR but
Leafs may still need some salary retention on Tanev if this isn’t their only Trade deadline deal.

  5. I can't see Lilegren be in a trade. Leafs are looking for a good right handed defencemen. Now they want to trade a right handed defenceman. It better be that good of a deal.

  6. Leafs are forward heavy and have a goaltender who has lost his confidence playing in TO. Do not touch the D core. The D core is too thin.

  7. Samonov is 26 years old. Years ago I heard that the Chinese drop players from their Table Table team when they reach 28 years old even if they are ranked #1 in the world. It appears they did a study and found the reflex start going down hill after 28 years old.
It's incredible if a goalie still has a quick glove at 30 years old. Getting older doesn't look good for Samonov.
