Players will always try to use the rules of the game to draw penalties/protect themselves, as they trust the other player will read their intentions. They have been trained by over-policing of the sport to make themselves vulnerable in order to draw penalties. Guys lead with their head into a contact situation, turn their backs when they know the hit is coming, etc. More rules make for more danger.
Didn't make any effort to play the puck which was still pretty far away as he was getting smashed through the glass. "There was no arm up" yes that's why he came over for his celebrated 2, five and 10. The European argument about the Refs controlling the game goes out the window on plays like these.

Hit seemed a little high, maybe just some unlucky contact because the position. Still want your teammates to step up, so good on Maroon.
Typical NHL today go after a guy for a good hit
incoming “stick up for your teammates” vs. “they overreact on clean plays” debate
What a Maroon, Florida misses you buddy

hahahaha! I knew these were the Homer Boston announcer goofs before actually clueing in that it was a Bruins home game, or the accent tipped me off.
Maroon is so washed up, he has to create a reason for still being in the NHL
wow wotherspoon turtled like marchand

That might be the first time a Bruin has been in a fight on NESN and not been declared the absolute winner.
An instigator? And no penalty for the hit from behind? Why is the league determined to end someone's career?
Lol dude got beat so bad Bruins broadcast decided yeah let's just not show it
Boston 🐀🐀🐀🐷🐷🐷🐒🐒🐒👎
God just retire already Pat Moron. Dudes a plug at this point in his career.
As usual, if the original hit on the Bruins guy was called…. probably no fight zzzzzzz
Who else didnt know wotherspoon got traded from the islanders?
Buddy left his fucking feet
I don't like the instigating on this one. 5 for fighting and let the boys play.
I’m all for fights after big hits but this one is so silly. Johansen doesn’t even get knocked off his feet.
Maroon never has and never will win a fight
I'd say they missed an interference on Wotherspoon.
So… jumped in and hit high – no call? Well, then Maroon had to intervene.
I’m not sure why maroon started a fight there.
wotherspoon didn't want to go hahahaha
