Bruins-Coyotes Thoughts: Matt Poitras benched despite Pavel Zacha injury + PASTRNAK FOR MVP

The good news is the Boston Bruins were able to fend off the Coyotes in a 5-3 win over Arizona on Saturday. There were no late game blown leads, as David Pastrnak iced it in MVP fashion.

The bad news is Pavel Zacha was injured and left the game early. And still, young Matthew Poitras was stapled to the bench in the 3rd as head coach Jim Montgomery decided others gave the team a better chance to win.

But how’s he going to learn what it takes to defend leads in the 3rd without getting the reps?

Plus, a look at which teams the Bruins will be up against this week.

  1. I agree with your thoughts on Poitras. In the NHL it's sink or swim, no molly-coddling should happen. He's not the only Bruin to bobble a puck in the nuetral zone and shouldn't be punished for it. He'll never get to where he has to be if Mongomery keeps shutting him down.

  2. I think the coach is lacking some brain cells. Every goal against there’s usually a player who makes an error. He’s picking on the 19 year and last year he was clueless in the playoffs. Poitras is playing good. Let him grow.

  3. Ian always appreciate your takes, but disagree with you on the benching of Poitras – nothing grabs the attention of a young player more then stapling his ass to the bench. Monty was clearly not happy with his pace. I think doing this earlier in the season, and yes against an opponent like the Yotes is a good lesson for him. Monty will show him ice and confidence again next game…
