Should Buffalo Sabres blow it up?

The Buffalo Sabres had a rough lost against the Columbus Blue Jackets 9-4. The Sabres are having a rough season. Is it time for them to blow it up?

  1. They can capitalize on trading veterans like Skinner, Okposo, etc…but their young core is extremely strong and will be a force

  2. Their defense sucks. They have no defensive shut down plays. There are no cross or pinch plays like other teams have to shut down a rush. Players chase the puck instead of staying on their man. Half the time they look like they are hung over. Most of the time when a team scores on them the defense is left baffled because they barley even know where the puck went.

Dahlin has said that he plays worse after playing golf, yet he still does it and it shows during home games. He leads the team in hits, which is great, but he gets sloppy sometimes. Dahlin has gotten a lot of praise based on his goals and assists.

Power should be a forward on the 4th line. Power could have blocked a lot of shots that ended up being goals including the one from the blue line that was meant as a dump in a few games ago. There are a couple of teams that have noticed how bad the Sabres defense is with Power on ice and start to aggressively attack with success, but everyone else keeps praising him. The teams that I have seen notice this are the Carolina Hurricanes and the Boston Bruins. I can't say for the CBJ game last night as when the score started going up for CBJ I paid more attention the Canes game.

Clifton has made some good defensive plays, but he is not a star defensive player.

Samuelson is just terrible. The only time he is some what ok is when he is paired with Dahlin, put he is typically paired with Power causing a turd storm.

    E. Johnson, R. Johnson, and Jokiharju are good D-men, but not stars.

Sabres need to trade some players for a couple of star defensive players, reorganize the defense, and get a defensive minded coach. They have plenty of goal scores and playmakers with their forwards, but they continue to struggle on defense.

Incase anyone is wondering, yes I have sent a letter to the Sabres saying almost the same thing last year. I might have to do it again as the Sabres face making more history for the NHL as a team that hasn't made the playoffs in 13 years which would continue the tie with the NFL NY(J) Jets.

  3. The losing culture is so deeply ingrained changing a player or two here and there won’t change anything. They need major changes.

  4. I'm not going to pick on sabers. I agree with your perspective

Don't think coaches & athletes are entirely in charge of their own destinies anymore

I'm just having fun with this one, yet Buffalo crosses over into the Toronto market and there's no way in hell the NHL is going to let them surpass Leafs! Lol!

Conspiracy theory #42 – starting to suspect, the difference between teams excelling and not is what they do off-season.

We're watching some of these hotshot young guns go down like flies by November.

Perhaps the training staff and some of these franchises haven't modernized their perspective based on this long season NHL league?

Sabres had Linus Ullmark playing injured, then called him up from rehab early. Is that an indication of how they take care of their athletes?

they're always pulling on players to give out pies, visit hospitals, start anti-bullying campaigns in their spare time?

-even give interviews in between periods of a game?

    They're not playing hockey anymore.

don't believe many are prepared to come in every autumn to play like this. They're still very young, training changes as we age

Or they're pulling on their top players too much they're getting injured?

But they blow up teams these days! Meaning the players, not the office suits.

No chance to develop chemistry over a course of seasons

    No job security.

You can be #1 draft pick, spend 16 years on a team, loyal – first USA born player to win the Ross & Hart trophies, thinking you're going to be a career hawk – suddenly you're tossed out the door!

Just up and move your life to another city.

Thanks for your services – we might retire your jersey if you want to come back! Then we can sell more of your jerseys, even if you're not a hawk anymore, we'll still cash in on your legacy!
    😃

I truly think it's about bucks not pucks.

The talent is there in Buffalo, and on many other underperforming teams

We can only rag on the players for so long.

We've seen their highlights before they came into the nhl, but we don't really know who's behind the scenes directing the franchises.

We don't have highlights nor stats on them!

    Good luck to buffalo.
I think it starts from the top down

Maybe more Sun lamps in the locker room !
