Which San Jose Sharks Players Have Seen Their Trade Stock Improve And Fallen?

With the San Jose Sharks back into seller mode, players have seen their trade stock rise or take a hit since the start of the season. Start with untouchable players (William Eklund, Tomas Hertl) and untradeable (Marc-Edouard Vlasic) players heading into this trade deadline, and other players don’t make sense for the Sharks to trade right now. Then, why have the goaltenders seen their trade stock rise this season despite the defensive play by the Sharks? How does Mikael Granlund look to have gone from a potential buyout by the Pittsburgh Penguins to an actual trade piece for the Sharks, and if Mario Ferraro could be on the way out. Finally, what do Alexander Barabanov and Anthony Duclair need to do for their stock to rise?

  1. I could see it costing more than just Pittsburgh's first to dump Vlasic's deal. Marleau's cost a first and it was 1-year, $6.25M remaining, and that was before the cap freeze. I will admit that the pick being 13th overall was unexpected and it was expected to be a much later pick and that the expected cap increase helps to offset the deal a bit, but 1×6.25M vs 3x7M is a pretty substantial difference. Even our first unprotected would be borderline, more likely a couple of firsts.

Either way, your point was that he's pretty much untradable and I 100% agree with that.

  2. Vlasic isn't going to get traded this season or next imo. We are perfectly fine cap wise and not contending this season and next. It's a terrible contract but he's been a great Shark for over 15 years, no reason to lose draft capital to dump his salary in nothing seasons.

  3. Is Duclair’s stock falling though? He has a pretty impressive resume and he’s shown he’s still capable of scoring. I wonder if other teams chalk up the inconsistency to him playing on a really bad team.

  4. Hertl is untradable due to his contract. Eklund is untouchable because he is a legit blue-chip prospect. Everyone else should be sold to the highest bidder.

  5. Granlund is having something that could be close to a career-season. Now would be the time to sell high. If you retain 50% on him, teams get him super cheaply for next year too, and that can fetch the greatest return from anyone on this roster. Worth not having that extra retention spot for a year…you would be saving it for an opportunity such as this.

  6. The only Vlasic trade I could see is if we retain 50% and we pay a third team to retain another 25% and someone takes him for free at 1.75mil. Still highly unlikely.
