  1. Yeah Petey has got more points in fewer games but thats only because Svech played his rookie year so young. At this moment in time Petey and Svech are very comparable in terms of how good they are right now. Petey is a centre tho

  2. Petey didn't make the jump to the NHL after he was drafted so I can understand why his points are higher, plus he plays center so 8 x 8 sounds about right

  3. Canucks trade contracts to get out of cap trouble… instantly back into cap trouble… nice

  4. I honestly don’t understand the question, but if your asking what kind of deal Elias will get? From the number alone and age and seeing some of his vids, of course I don’t truly know Elias himself, my opinion he can got for easily over 8.22, is equates to a 1st,2nd, and 3rd. Which is obviously nothing really.

  5. I think since Svech combines physical dominance with his skill and Petey is more skill reliant/cerebral in his play, that Svech entering the league about a year and a half younger does explain early career numbers. They should be regarded as comparables in contract talks. I think Couturier signing for the same as Svech is coincidental. Petey has good 2-way play and may continue to develop that, but for me it is hard to compare it to Couturier's play as of late – that's just because he's in his prime and carrying a good amount of experience though.

  6. A cool 6.5 million for three years with some type of signing bonus would be fair for Petterson in my opinion.

  7. If he's healthy, Elias Pettersson is at least a PPG player, and that is worth a lot in today's NHL. This isn't the 80s or early 90s. We're still in a kind of quasi-dead puck era compared to that. I prefer hockey that was played between 1990 and 1995 to be honest – a kind of hybrid where you could have both 8-6 games and 2-1 games – but that's not the point. A PPG player these guys is worth around 7-10 million a year in a long term deal, like it or not, with the insane contracts being handed out. All the guys who used to be good, legit middle 6 forwards or even 2nd liners are being phased out and every team is getting top heavy. You'll have 3-4 big money contracts tops and then have to fill out your roster with cheaper low end 3rd and 4th liners and fringe NHLers now who can at least not get destroyed when they're on the ice. If Pettersson signs for less than 8 million long term, I'd say it's a minor victory. You'd never know there was a salary cap these days. If you can't have guys coming in on entry level contracts contributing significantly right away, you're in trouble as a hockey team. Depth is going to be an issue for every team chasing even a playoff spot from now on, because GMs have boxed themselves and each other into a corner with these ridiculous contracts. Tucker Poolman at 2.5 million would have been considered unthinkable 10 years ago, but today that's the going rate for a #5 defensemen who can potentially play #4 in the short term. There will be another lockout coming, because owners have allowed general managers to sign ridiculous contracts under a salary cap that doesn't work. There are too many teams in the league who don't generate enough revenue and they've been able to put a bandaid on it through revenue sharing, but eventually, unless the NHL is willing to move more teams to viable markets or just let those teams dissolve, it's all coming crashing down. The NHL is one giant bubble that is eventually going to burst because they don't generate the revenues in many markets to justify the contracts and you're going to see a lot of teams that are 1/2 NHL calibre players and 1/2 AHL calibre players. You'll have long periods during games that are great and long periods that just drag. This is the league Gary Bettman has created. He doesn't understand the game of hockey at all, either from a business or an on-ice perspective whatsoever.

  8. Id say they are of equal talent, all three are !! Svechys a key player for the canes, and seans way more defensively sound than petey !! I would think elias will get a similar deal at anywhere in the league, but not anymore !!

  9. I will tell ya this…Petterson is worth more than Svech and he is worth just as much as COUT only because Cout is pushing 30. Now, give PEtterson 8×8 and get it over with.

  10. I think svech’s contract will have more of an impact with boeser’s contract next year rather then petey’s contract this year.

  11. The part that I don't like is that EVERYONE is discounting the fact that Svech played fresh off the boat in the NHL as an 18 year old, whereas Petey got to go back to Sweden and work on his game for another year. If you take out Svech's first year, his ppg is 0.83 compared to Petey's 0.92. Yeah, Petey is still better, he is a center, and so he should be paid more– but the question this brings up is 'how much more'. If Svech is worth 7.75 X 8, I don't see why Pettersson should be any more than 9 X 8, and that's what I think people are looking at, not comparing them directly 1v1.
