Sabres smoke the Maple Leafs because they’re hilarious

Just two days after giving up 9 goals, the Sabres score 9 goals against the Toronto Maple Leafs in the most fun game to attend all year, but not for Leafs fans! Sneaky Joe tries to make sense of why the Sabres continue to beat down great teams, but can’t handle some of the worst teams in the league.

  1. I’d rather have 3 lines of talent instead of 1 line of elite talent. The younger guys just need a bit more time to get to a consistent game

  2. It's time for the Sabres to select a new captain. Okposo won't be around much longer and doesn't play enough minutes to be an effective leader, obviously the team is still in transition, AND consistent leadership is a huge issue RIGHT NOW. Also, you really don't want to designate your captain as a healthy scratch, but Okposo needs to be just that against some teams. (Strangely, your commentary on this team's talent is way off in this episode. Looking forward to your re-evaluation. Leadership, leadership, leadership.)

  3. This could be the wake up call game they needed, grant it the goaltending hasn't been there along with the rest of the team, get everyone healthy and put a winning streak together, i think they can be a playoff team, but with still not enough to go deep on the playoffs

  4. I'm glad players came right out and said they heard the "fire Donny" chants and took it personally. They better not forget it. Because if they look soft and lost against Columbus next week they're going to hear it again. This game doesn't give this team a pass. Consistency is the only thing that matters and so far they have shown us ZERO consistency. Try winning 2 games in a row. Win gasp 3 games in a row. No one wins every game but you can't look like you belong in the minors literally every other game. When you dont look prepared, the fans have every right to question the guy whose job it is to get everyone prepared. So please, please, prove us wrong.

  5. Better keep it up against NY tomorrow. Great to see top 2 lines back together for the first time this season. Wish I would have put more than just 10 bucks on my Sabres -1.5 bet! Oh well.

  6. I don’t get how it takes another teams fans to take over half of your building or to hear your own fans chanting “fire Donnie” to get you “motivated”. It’s the fn NHL, you should be motivated to play every game, that’s what you’re getting paid hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars to do. The fire Donnie chants got them motivated, that’s the dumbest shit I’ve ever heard

  7. Bring back all the bums next year, just keep missing the playoffs for 20 years! Okposo, Grigensons, Jost…being them all back and all get raises! True leaders

  8. Thompson did have that 6 goal game last year…granted he got hurt at the end of last year, but getting more than 10% of a 50 goal season in one game helps a ton in making you look like a 50 goal scorer when maybe you're more like a 35-40 goal scorer on average.

That said, I think Thompson could be a 50 goal scorer, his stick handling is letting him down compared to how he looked using his length to get to the dangerous spots on the ice with the ability to get his shot off…feels like Thompson is getting his shots mostly as a spot up shooter now or at least a pass, couple moves and shoot, where last year he was slicing through defenses and I hope that's injury

  9. Don't get fooled by the fact that Toronto had abysmal goaltending this time from both goalies. Yes, it was a great win but just please, don't plan any parades before they show that effort consistently.

  10. The Sabres responded in epic fashion after a full scale invasion of Leafs fans and so many people here are just looking for things to whine and complain about. Pretty weak Buffalo spirit.

  11. Briere wasn't a superstar? Shall we ask the Flyers? They couldn't wait to get Briere playing for them instead of against them. Same can be said for Drury and the Rangers. I'd take Briere and Drury over Eichel and Matthews ANY day.

  12. Well, let's see just how much they were personally offended by the "fire Donny" chants. If they can't perform like they did last night on a consistent basis, then they can be assured of the chants returning. If that's what motivated them, it doesn't speak very highly of their collective training and upbringing. I still think that Granato is not the guy who can lead the franchise to a status of a long term success.

  13. The talent is clearly there. It's a focus problem . Kids today have problems staying focused on a consistent basis. They need to figure that out
