Scouting Notes : Peter Reynolds Game Report – October 9th 2020

Here’s my scouting notes on Saint-John’s forward and 2021 NHL Draft Top Prospect, Peter Reynolds. What’s YOUR opinion on the Canadian prospect ? I would love to hear it in the comments bellow !
2021 NHL Draft top prospects scouting reports :

Summary:
This was a beautiful showing from Reynolds, who putted on display his complete skillset and an attention to details as a playmaking two-way center. His competitive spirit and willingness to put the extra effort on the backcheck jumped to the eye immediately, as he repeatedly chased down opponents in transition to disrupt plays. Reynolds knows he won’t outmuscle many opponents, so he instead beats his enemies with sounded positioning, a combative stick and graceful backchecks. He has quickly built a habit of consistently getting back into his own zone quickly and supporting his defenseman against counterattacks by blocking skating and passing lanes. His stick-lifts are snappy, and he can assert his dominance on the puck through those. Outside of pure compete, the Canadian centerman also possesses superb skating abilities, that helps him hunt down opponents as he comes back to the defensive zone. Reynolds flashes explosive first few steps and a tremendous acceleration, which enable him to get to high speed swiftly. He passes from his outside to inside edge almost instantly, which allows him to push off each stride briskly and makes him looks so speedy/volatile. He has an excellent stance, perfectly leaned over and low to the ice for power generation. His outstanding top speed is evident as he blows past rivals on both sides of the puck.

Reynolds is present and active on breakouts, frequently using his quick footspeed and crossovers to get free on the outlet. His impressive quickness and agility have allowed him to lead multiple zone exits, where he dodges forechecking attacker and gets into skating lanes seamlessly. As a pass-first attacker, Reynolds always looks to open the play in neutral zone, to make the transition fluid and keep the defense on their edge. He understands the power of positioning, and calls upon freeing himself and crashing the net in rush offenses. That said, developing a bit more power and accuracy in his shot would allow him finish more of the countless scoring occasions he takes part of.

On the cycle, he distributes the puck very well and can make quick decisions in pressured situations, a result of his above average vision and spatial awareness. He often tried to attack the crease, tonight, with rapid and vicious passes in front, which unfortunately couldn’t connect with stick and skates in the lane. He exhibited smooth edge work to create space for himself, but more often than not, quickly gave the possession back to one of his partners. I would like to see him take a bit more confidence in his abilities and generate his own chances at times. He has the skills to be a dual threat, so why not.

Reynolds’s pride in his defensive responsibilities, magnificent skating and superb spatial awareness makes him a very interesting playmaking two-way center. I look forward to observe his development this season, as he could be poised to rise across rankings this season.
