great win by nassau county
Another shortie by Holmstrom, another snipe from Bo, and a regulation win that they didn't have to sweat out.
Special teams and sorokin win. Isle pp has done a complete reversal from last season, now up near top of pp's with 2 pp goals. Strange how some pp's can suck one year and be great the next. pk is weird. isles either give up sh goal-still last 32th pk-or score sh with 10 scoring sh leading the way. Isles controlled oil this game-no lead to blow. gf continues to go up as ga goes up. Go figure isles…. If isles are now an offensive team lead louzer needs to go get that goal scorer to compliment attack.
Very good Showing, huge shift and improvement special teams and defense, the team needs to use this game as much needed step up, great show Gil you pretty much nailed everything as usual, LETS GO ISLANDERS !!!
HOLMSTROM !!! His confidence is palpable.
"Shorty" Holmstrom LGI
Hey Gil another top notch show. What can we say about Holmstrom besides he’s more confident, he’s matured and he reminds me of Ray Ferraro. Now my question to you and all the viewers is: What does Lane do when Pelech and Pullock are healthy ? Who do you sit or do you dangle Pelech to try and get that sniper ?
2pts!!!! Caps up next, another 2pts tonight. LGI!!!!
I have to honestly say that LANE Is making me eat my words! Syllable by syllable 😊
Played their game for 2 periods. Slow start but rebounded. Shut down the 3rd. I do wish they would attack more with a 2 goal lead within reason. Holstrum is fire. Scoring has returned. PP is clicking. No complaints. Caps next who are on their game as of late. Go Isles
I've been telling Lane he needs to pull the defense back a little, and he finally listened! 😁
Horvats goal was impressive because it wasn't a one-timer. He repositions the puck so quickly and shoots like a one-timer. That wrister was nasty.
Holmstrom continues to show he has a great shot. It gets off quick and he picks his spots. He put himself in the perfect position to receive a pass, and Pags didn't disappoint.
It won't be long before defenders realize when those 2 come up the ice on a 2 on 1, cover Holmstrom. You have a better chance if he doesn't touch the puck.
The Capitals have surprised me. I expected them to be bottom feeders at this point, but they are hanging in there.
Hi Gil, I kind of like the new way, offense 😮 the 3 rd period didn’t seam as bad as it was, out shot by alot. Let’s see what happens tonight 🎉i think the islanders will get their legs 🦵 moving 🎉enjoy your day gil ! Let’s go islanders ❤
Gm. Turtling in the 3rd period is NOT an effective long term strategy. Those 1st periods were really impressive and I want to see that same effort across 60 min. Thanks Gil for your hard work on these podcasts.
Other than the first 10-15 minutes. It was a great showing of what the Islanders can be.
Come on. No highlight of Green is better than his assist to Palfy and then the subsequent kiss!
Bo was very durable and consistent in Vancouver so it's no surprise he is doing the same for the NYI.
Sorokin was the difference, also the Isles D credit…Oilers didn't have a chance to lift the puck, all shots were low. but when they made a mistake, Sorokin was there…Edmonton can go from cup faves to missing the playoffs…look for them to made a big D move at the deadline even if it means Nurse.
Hi Gil! Excellent show! Man I had to run Christmas errands with the family—-they shopped and I glowingly listened to the game on the radio! I used to go that often with my Dad way back!! “Islander goal, Islander goal, another 3/4 and Islander goal! Brought back memories. Bottom line? This is how it was back in the old days. It was done consistently! Best game played this year I feel! Man Simon has made me eat some major league crow and I’m happy for him! Ok Gil, we have a good problem. IMO—Mayfield should not return unless 💯 necessary! He’s part of the reason we get hemmed in! Bolduc—-would not play him either. Pellech and or Pullock were there when we were losing—both out and we’re winning. Sorry—no coincidence. As I see it, have to dangle one of them and Walstrom for that goal scorer!! Can’t run those guys all back and take out Tuzz and Reilley! If he does and we start losing again—-should finally be fired once and for all. Gil, you know I’ve always loved Laine! I know he’s hurt now but what do ya think? Forget his D—-he will fill the net and will be rejuvenated with Bo and Barzie!! Bolduc, Mayfield out!! Trade one of the other two—they’ve become expendable IMO! Excellent win. Ps? What a a difference speed and some skill makes. Different looking team without those other giveaway stiffs. Bo and Barzie get 80 points each like I said before the season started—-we make it. Keep it going!! LGI!!
Some positives from the first 1/3 or so of the season:
Horvat – Barzal connection
Confidence and production from Dobson
Lou picking up Reilly and Bortuzzo – quiet pick ups, but really nice off the radar additions
Continued scoring from Nelson (on pace for 30+ goals…again!)
Health and play of Palmieri.
Holmstrom and the mentoring from Pageau – great connection there.
The PP of late.
Cizikas and Clutterbuck – 10 points each
The play of the defence despite not having Pelech, Pulock and Mayfield.
Dobson and Romanov really shouldering a heavy load with ice time and responsibility – pivotal to their development and the timing is right.
The quiet development of Bolduc. I feel like he is where Dobson was his first year when he came up and played with Greene. I don't know that Bolduc's ceiling is Dobson's, but I think he can be somewhere between a Pelech and a Reilly.
Areas to look for improvement…
Lee to continue scoring as he has been doing the last few weeks.
A little more production from Engvall.
Gauthier, Fasching or Wahlstrom to step up to the level that Fasching was showing at the end of last season.
Health of the defence.
More results for Sorokin like last night.
Continued improvement with the PK.
Just my 2 cents.
Anyone realize how bad that loss was last night. Don't care about points in last 10 or whatever. Loss against Montreal after beating Toronto and now a Loss after beating Edmonton. Joke to not take that momentum into either of those 2 and smoke the opponent. Letting the East know they are still scared.
