It was explained in the telecast that the rule is applied usually on a bang-bang play and this wasn’t that. The puck came across the ice and Panarin had time to collect it, take a look, and shoot the puck.
Obviously we’d like the goal, but if roles were reversed and that’s Igor with his mask like that, we’d want the play stopped too.
