Don Granato Postgame Interview vs New York Rangers (12/23/2023)

You were able to overcome two deficits to come back and earn a point how would you assess the group’s performance tonight very good effort uh obviously in a in a great atmosphere obviously um tonight and we had to come back we had to fight we had to scratch we had to

Fight a lot of different elements tonight um and refocus on some different elements and stay focused and uh I thought our guys uh did a great job with it um obviously we generated some some very very good chances in overtime penalty kill uh did US did did a heck of

A job to finish the game did a job good job through the game so lots of good and um lots of opportunity to win it and also some things that uh might have been out of our control that got a little frustrating when it comes to those times

In the game Dawn where the emotions you the emotions go up and down especially you know the penalties and whatnot how do you manage it with the group how do they manage it among themselves in those situations well tonight I thought our guys manag it incredibly well under the circumstances

Um and and stayed focused on the task uh you know but um there there was plenty to that that could have got them off their game or off objective and uh they stayed dialed in why was Jeff Skinner given a timing misconduct in that situation I don’t put you in a

Situation talk guys um you know there were some things he he was given a 10 based on what they saw but the explanation of of why it was chosen then um was was not good bad uh so um you know given a 10 for his action I thought I thought the fight um

Obviously what I saw in regard was their player did shake his gloves was which is a signed more than willing um so we ended up short on that and then obviously some penalties that uh um The Players informed me why and um we’ve talked about I mean obviously

You guys want to string wins together you want to go on a run here but to get a point on the road against that team do you feel like this this group’s got momentum going into the break here and there’s more Clarity on how you guys

Need to play and what you want to do and exiting the break absolutely um a lot more playing for the Pure Love of the Game and the joy of the game the energy you know wanting you know that appetite uh that you know there’s more for you

And going after it and no question the last couple games have been uh much much better and um I feel very confident that that that this group is uh headed the right direction in regard what was your reaction when you see how many guys go

In dro the block shots I mean you guys I not only on penalty kills but situations throughout the game to to help your goalie in those situations yeah again if it goes with I thought our guys were very dialed in very committed um and uh played with passion that’s what we’ve

Been missing a little bit we play a little bit tight a lot tight and a lot of games tight and uh you know that that manifest that hesitation comes across as you don’t work hard this is a willing group and when you can play with passion

And play Fearless you know you you work hard and you do things like that and you don’t even you don’t even realize it what did you like from Jordan Greenway and his Line Tonight a lot uh Greenway was good again I think he hit the score sheet a few times obviously killed some

Penalties for us that were big um you know he’s he is a presence out there and it’s nice to have him back in the lineup colender seems to be hitting a new stride you seen what you what do you see that you like from yeah we we have we

Have two very young golender um with not much experience so every day is experience for them and uh experience gained and they’re gaining confidence with it yes there’s ups and downs you know for every player in this league uh but you know with a young team and young

Players when they hit it down it’s going to be learning uh you know an older player hits it down it’s it doesn’t mean they’re going to come out of it better necessarily uh but the younger guys do U by virtue of of of the youth and and gaining experience in each situation and

Opie has done that uh consistently um as as has Devon thank you thank you

  1. With Donnie and his Donnetts it’s always someone else’s fault. Tonight the blame fell on the zebras. Waa-Waa-Waa. Giant crocodile tears!

  2. We did play well enough to win, but the time for moral victories was over a while ago. They need to go on a run and FAST.

  3. Id like to know why nobody ever asks this coach "how" he prepares his players for the next game after a big win – there is no excuse or reason for a young team to start a game sluggish – and stop saying they are young and they need to learn – that ship has sailed – excuses!!!

  4. If they buried half their chances. It be a different story. Sooner or later they’re gonna start going in. Hopefully sooner. So many young kids on the team just by age alone there’s not gonna be enough room for everyone only so many on the roster. Have to trade some minor leaguers to get a couple of true powers forwards.

  5. “We’re a young team”, “we’ll learn from this”, “I have confidence…”, “obviously….”. Enough clichés already!! Just play the game!
