With the LA Kings winning the 2nd overall pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, they have an opportunity to select Quinton Byfield with the pick; the man who’d been touted as the 2nd best prospect in this draft for years now. It may be a controversial pick today, but considering track record and legacy, Quinton Byfield could very well be the 2nd prospect selected come the entry draft. On a prospect core that already consists of names like Alex Turcotte, Rasmus Kupari, Akil Thomas, Tyler Madden, Gabriel Vilardi, Jaret Anderson-Dolan, and a few others, not to mention Tobias Bjornfot and Jordan Spence on the blue line, it could be a crazy good addition to an already pretty stacked future core.

The current NHL rankings for the 2020 NHL Draft go as follows:

1st) Undetermined team
2nd) Los Angeles Kings
3rd) Ottawa Senators (via San Jose Sharks)
4th) Detroit Red Wings
5th) Ottawa Senators
6th) Anaheim Ducks
7th) New Jersey Devils
8th) Buffalo Sabres.

The draft is stacked with guys like Alexis Lafrenière at the top, with Quinton Byfield, Tim Stützle, Lucas Raymond, Alexander Holtz, Jamie Drysdale, Marco Rossi, Cole Perfetti, Jake Sanderson, and Yaroslav Askarov rounding out the top 10. The rest of the draft has a ton of great talent as well, like Anton Lundell, Kaiden Guhle, Dawson Mercer, Braden Schneider, Dylan Holloway, Hendrix Lapierre, Connor Zary, Justin Barron, Jack Quinn, John-Jason Peterka, William Wallinder, Rodion Amirov, Jacob Perreault, Seth Jarvis, Ty Smilanic, Jeremie Poirer, Noel Gunler, Mavrik Bourque, Lukas Reichel, Tyler Kleven, Ridly Greig, Justin Sourdif, Shakir Mukhamadullin, Jake Neighbours, Luke Tuch, Helge Grans, Jan Mysak, Michael Benning, and Antonio Stranges.

The former NHL Draft Lottery odds, went in order as the Detroit Red Wings, Ottawa Senators, San Jose Sharks (Senators), Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Ducks, New Jersey Devils, Buffalo Sabres, Montreal Canadiens, Chicago Blackhawks, Arizona Coyotes (Devils), Minnesota Wild, Winnipeg Jets, New York Rangers, Florida Panthers, Columbus Blue Jackets, Calgary Flames, Vancouver Canucks (Devils), Nashville Predators, Toronto Maple Leafs (Hurricanes), Edmonton Oilers, New York Islanders (Senators), Dallas Stars, Carolina Hurricanes (Rangers), Pittsburgh Penguins (Wild), Philadelphia Flyers, Tampa Bay Lightning (Sharks), Colorado Avalanche, Vegas Golden Knights, Washington Capitals, St. Louis Blues, and Boston Bruins (Ducks).

  1. Listen folks, trading young centre prospects will always get you a good return. That's easy. Having a big centre, who can skate like a deer, fall in your lap is very rare. If you don't draft Byfield, you could end up kicking yourself in the rear for the next 10-15 years. Rob Blake isn't going to let that happen. It is possible, like every draft pick, that Byfield is a bust, but he has every skill necessary and how high his ceiling is…well, who knows?

  2. Stützle>Byfield. Its not even close. Plus they are more in need of wingers. And i'll say it again : Stutzle is and will be better than byfield, at least offensivly.

  3. You put out good facts! If he doesnt put himself in this years draft he could be easily 1st overall next season. Hes a year away from nhl ready.

  4. Don't get me wrong I think byfield will be a phenomenal player when he makes the nhl. It's just that I think stutzle game is a little bit better than byfield. I think stutzle is a better distributer and has better vision than him. And as of right now I think his defensive game is way better than byfields. And every time I see stutzle play he's always giving his full effort on both sides of the ice where in byfield case if seen him laze around in the defensive zone from time to time. I love byfield size but he doesn't use it to its full abilities imo. For a big man he's not that physical and I've videos of stutzle being physical. I just think stutzle game is more suitable for the Kings right now.

  5. After kings draft Byfield or stutzle they still have 3 seconds 2 thirds 2 fourths 2 fifths 3 sixths and a seventh to go with the what will best-raited prospects in the league Rob Blake and scouts are doing an outstanding job.

  6. If the Kings don't take Byfield they don't deserve him. If they pass on him for Stutzle or Drysdale it's just a greedy mistake. Byfield could easily be a 1st overall. Gonna be crazy good.

  7. If I was the kings I would trade down too Ottawa’s 5 or Detroit’s 4th and give away few bad contracts too move down.

  8. The Kings will draft Tim Stutzle. The scouts rate his speed at 10/10, and he has the brain to go with it. The league has become a speed-oriented league, and Stutzle fits the bill a bit better than Byfield.

  9. Byfield has a huge bust potential. Not really sold on this kid. Would not be surprised one bit if he is the lesser of the two between him and Stutzle.

  10. Byfield is big, strong and fast. Once he masters his skills as a defensive forward, he has the ability to be a Selke candidate. Having Kopitar to mentor him is an added bonus.

  11. Stuzzi skates circles around Byfield. The difference in their skating ability is night and day. Pick Stuzzi. All the way

  12. Some really good points. I have to admit, i wanted Stutzle because of his speed and creativity. The way this guy finds linemates is second to non. Being a kings fan ive seen enough of big and heavy. I want to see some creative, risky, Toronto type play. But id be happy with either player. I just hope Byfield is as quick as they say.

  13. Thanks for doing Kings videos bro. A lot of channels leave us out. Btw, you’re gonna blow up at some point. Good sounding voice for YouTube commentating and good audio and editing. Subscribed.

  14. I feel like the kings will definitely take him but I wouldn’t be surprised if they tried to trade up although the rangers probably wouldn’t take it

  15. This is my rookie season on being a hockey fan and especially a kings fan as I am from Los Angeles. I just purchased my first jersey which is a Byfield jersey. We both rookies and very excited for this coming season in kings hockey.
