  1. Jones was solid against Columbus. If Sammy is in net that game it would have been much closer, 4-3 or maybe even OT. We start Jones and hope he holds until Woll is back. Then they share the net until a true starter emerges. Sammy only plays if we have back-to-backs while Woll is still injured.

These are easy decisions for us when we’re sitting at home behind our computer. But if you’re on the actual firing line and you’re looking at the rest of the season knowing that you’re going to need three goalies you’re going to have to figure out a way to get Sammy going somehow. It’s either that or they’re going to have to acquire somebody and it won’t be cheap. The question I have right now is when Woll comes back do they send Sammy down to the AHL and risk losing him on waivers. Having to bring Hildeby up at this point in his career is a huge risk.

Hate to say it but it’s very unlikely Sammy is going anywhere. They’re going to try everything to get him going.

As much as we all love Woll and Marty has had himself a good few games, there’s no GM (especially in year one) that’s going into the playoffs with a rookie they don’t know will be 100% as plan A and an aging 3rd stringer as plan B. And even if there were any decent options available if you’re trading for a *good* keeper you’re giving up the assets and cap space for the D they desperately need. If it were that easy to dump Sammy’s salary the Canes and Oilers would be in a lot better shape in net.

Money says you’ll see Sammy against the Sens or Blue Jackets and we might see another 100 posts like this. They’re going to give him a few more starts like it or not – they don’t have a lot of other options available.

I remember this sub calling for Treliving’s head because he didn’t sign him to a long-term extension. Imagine if he did now? God, we got lucky.

How do you end “the Samsonov experiment”? Bring up the kid from the Marlies? He’s in his rookie year, he’s played more games so far then he ever has in a year. He’s coming from the US college system. Ya Knies played college and is doing well but he’s not a goalie. College is not even on the same level as junior A. Maybe Junior B. Sure Ken Dryden basically went from college to pro. 50 years ago. Cujo too but again over 30 years ago and still it took him 3 years to win 50% of his starts. Bring the kid up and it could ruin him.
Trade? For whom? With what? Montreal has 3 goalies but their asking price went way up at least from the Leafs. We are over a barrel with our pants around our ankles.
TML trade bait. Nylander, (10nteam NTC) Marner can’t NMC, Minten or Cowan? No way they are the future. So what do we trade with? Even if they could find a guy playing our on the ice at Nathan Philips Square these not $$$ the projected cap space is $0.00

When the real Jobes shows up, we’re in trouble

Hot take but expected goals figures can be gamed.

The calculations for them are based on shot location, type, and pre-shot movement but leave out a lot of subjective items. For instance, here’s a thread detailing how location data was [bonked in the past](https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/comments/jkcrdk/mccurdy_accounting_for_scorer_bias_in_shot/) (and might still be to this day), the listed shot types we see on NHL.com are always contentious, and pre-shot movement is also influenced by items that can’t be quantified such as the quality of the pass sent, cleanliness of reception, the goalie not being set/having not read the play, etc.

But things THIS apparent are like the plus-minus stat: when there’s smoke, there’s fire. I like to think he might be suffering from postpartum depression following the recent birth of his kid.

You’re using a list with Greaves, Rittich, Domingue and Hellberg at the top. Means nothing.

We gave more than enough time (2years) for Andersen to bounce back. He never did

We gave more than enough time for Sammy to bounce back too. Not as long as Freddy but we don’t have another year to waste. Our core isn’t getting any younger.

You should be happy that we don’t have to deal with Campbell right now.

I love them as a person, but they just don’t got it no more. I hope someday they will bounce back. In the mean time let’s keep riding Jones and let Woll heal.
