The attendance outside of Canada or the states is laughably bad at times

Weird how the European countries barely care about the world juniors but go ape shit over the World Championships when most of the good NHLers aren’t even there
gneissguysfinishlast
Absolutely slanderous to Finns and Latvians! But also, kinda true, obviously.
MikeyZ3434
Can do the same for curling
hoodratchic
That would make sense actually… We are #1 at the sport and manufacture the greatest players in the world
Spike94515
Fuck yeah boxing day tradition, hockey hits different this time of year
Ramulus14
Meh, Canada loves hockeys and it’s some of the best you can get some years, and weirdly it’s not blacked out for stupid reasons.
propagandhi45
its a tradition on the 31st. Habs game in the afternoon and Canada junior right after it.
Stagbiitle
I care 🙁

Considering how much TSN supports the tournaments and basically has the entire broadcasting rights for it I’m not at all surprised. If it wasn’t for them this tournament probably wouldn’t be as big as it is.

For people that have an issue with this and make fun of how Canada supports this, how many countries give a damn about college sports? The WJC is pretty analogous to college football bowl games or final four basketball, except it is international which makes it more interesting in some ways.
Yelmel
In Canada we’re not the only ones who care about the juniors. We’re simply the best.
Arfguy
Love the World Juniors. If it’s only Canadians that love it, I’m perfectly ok with that 😂
miller94
It was a damn struggle to stay awake post night shift to finish the game this morning but you bet I did!

Wouldn’t the work juniors attendance thrive in a city like Boston? Huge hockey town went he bruins and all the top US hockey colleges that are there.

Now do one showing countries that give a crap about the world championships

I care. I love seeing all these prospects. It’s a great showcase of the future of the NHL.

Sweden and Finland care a lot
SokaKu93
You don’t know about finland then do you?
improbdrunk
Minimally Minnesota should be added.
khristmas_karl
While I agree that Canada cares the most about the WJC by far, Sweden and Finland have figured out how good the hockey can be. I get chirps every year from my Finnish and Swedish friends.
LustThyNeighbor
That’s because it’s Canada’s game, despite what Bettman’s desperately trying to do in dessert.

Hey that’s me!!!!!

I love the world juniors, just really hard to follow since the NHL network isn’t included with most cable packages anymore

For Canadians it’s a Christmas holiday tradition.
I remember watching games at 8am with my Dad when I was a boy. Intense games taking place in Europe.
And then when I made enuff money to afford it…. taking my Dad in 2015 to the Gold Medal game with ice level seats where we got to see Connor McDavid and others like Max Domi (they were sitting right by our seats).
Canada beat Russia that night in a very close game…..and Scotia Bank Arena was going 10 times crazier than any Leaf game I’ve ever been to (and I went to the playoff games they played against Tampa).
It’s super exciting hockey with a lot of spirit and excitement….. and if the rest of the world hasn’t become hip to it yet….. it’s too bad for them because the hockey is SICK!

Seen it at bus stops here. It’s too much even for me as a hockey fan. Just visiting Canada for a few days.

It’s criminal how bad the video quality is on the TSN app.

I love it, but I’m from the Canadian cousin state of Minnesota

Also a map of countries that regularly win World Juniors.

Me a Finn who had a breakdown last winter because of the loss and that idiot coach
Reversehalfhitch
Latvia declared the national holiday and shut the country down for a day when they won bronze last year. I think OP needs to colour that spot a little.

I enjoy it as an American, but there is literally zero promotion of this event outside of maybe NHL Network which isn’t adding any viewers
Alextryingforgrate
Any Canadian gone shopping on Boxing day is not a Hockey fan.
Funtownn
USA is the favorite to win gold in this years tournament. 10 first round draft picks on the team. 7 from Boston College. USA grassroots hockey is growing big time now. Even in places it never used to. USA junior hockey is getting close to Canada. You’re sleeping on this tournament btw. One of the best of the year.
CapriciousnArbitrary
I’m American and watch it every year.
no_on_prop_305
World jrs are fun. If you like hockey I don’t know why you wouldn’t want to watch. But if you don’t then don’t and quit being mad about people that do

And Finland my Finnish ex was always stoked with how well the youth squad did

It’s fun tournament where most of the pressure is put on Kids from Canada to defend Canada’s claim to the game. It’s simple if they win then nothing changes and hockey only matters to Canada but if they lose then Canada’s hockey program is failing and it’s the end of Canadian hockey as we know it until next year’s article before the games start again.

Probably why Canada hosts so often
