We have ourselves some pretty interesting NHL news and rumours out of Elliotte Friedman on Sportsnet’s Saturday Headlines, regarding Joe Thornton; San Jose Sharks legend and one of the best playmakers to ever play the sport of hockey.

As a 41-year-old on an expiring deal, the future’s uncertain as to where Thornton’s going to play next, but the newest rumour on the block is that he may be heading over to the NLA, the Swiss hockey league, and particularly, HC Davos.

Thornton is part of a San Jose Sharks team—that wasn’t able to trade him at the 2020 NHL Trade Deadline to one of the teams he reportedly wanted to go to, in the Tampa Bay Lightning, Boston Bruins, Dallas Stars, Pittsburgh Penguins, and the Colorado Avalanche—that doesn’t have a 1st round pick, because the 3rd overall selection of theirs actually belongs to the Ottawa Senators, after the Erik Karlsson trade.

3rd) Ottawa Senators (via San Jose Sharks)
4th) Detroit Red Wings

  1. With no definiteive return date for NHL next season, I think Jumbo Joe just wants to get into game action so by the start of next NHL season, he is ready to play. Right now, he is an older player and it is much harder for older player to come back and be in game shape to play after a long layoff. Earliest likely start time for next season is likely November, and Thornton's last hockey game would bein March. That is 8 months without game action. I think if Joe chooses to play in Switzerland next season, he would have a NHL outclause in his contract.

  2. Unless they can good the next season in Canada there shouldn't be another season of the playoffs the U.S has the most covid-19 cases and deaths and gets a thousand cases and deaths a day

  3. that would be a great idea for Joe. He could probably play 3 or 4 more years in that league, season being not nearly as long. Take into consideration the covid19 situation in California. I wouldn't want to be there.
