On today’s episode of Locked on Wild, we dive into arguably the best start to a season so far in Joel Eriksson Ek’s career. We look at the numbers he is putting up, with 14 goals in 26 games, and the pace it leaves him on. We discuss how impressive it is that Eriksson Ek has been able to keep his numbers consistent with slow starts for Kirill Kaprizov and a cold spell from Matt Boldy. We look at Eriksson Ek’s rankings among the NHL’s best in terms of expected goals for and expected goals for in High Danger situations, where he is ranked in the top 5 in the NHL in both categories. We discuss his contract, and the surplus value he continues to provide on top of his current AAV. We finish by discussing the impact he has had on players like Marco Rossi and Matt Boldy, and why that makes him a logical choice at some point to be an Alternate Captain. All in all Joel Eriksson Ek continues to click regardless of what is going on around him, and there is no reason to expect he won’t have another career year this year!

Ekkers is probably the best centerman that just shouldn't be on the top line (for whatever reason). Been watching this dude since his first NHL game…he always thrives on the 2nd or 3rd line, never the 1st. My guess is that his game is more of a right hook, instead of a left jab, feel me? He's Mr. Wolf from Pulp Fiction….doesn't say much, cleans up big messes, and that's that.
Would love to see him retire as a member of the Wild, like Koivu….but not before he raises the cup. Ek in his prime at $5.25M is a critical part of this club's next cup run window too.
I hope Erikson Ek will remain in the first line.
I love that EK is starting to hand out face washes with his glove hand. He gets to the paint and that's greasy goal ground zero!
I'm guessing that Boeser and Reinhart eventually fall off a little. Eriksson Ek, I'm not as sure.
Haven’t had time to to watch yet, just curious do you think we can catch the Jets with the Conner injury?
Ek is a case point in successful player development. The right role, expectations, and especially the time needed. I hope the team continues to draft and create opportunities for the next generation of prospects in like manner.
97’s injury in Winnipeg followed by Ek’s with 19 games remaining in Pittsburgh pretty much were the death-nails for the Wild’s playoff hopes last spring. EK is a complete gamer and had the fortuitous career path of watching Koivu. Absolutely love his game and hoping he shows the ropes to Ohgren ( fellow Swede) and Kumpulainen when they start their careers. EK can be plugged in anywhere and is a player 31 other teams would love to have on their roster. So far, Faber and Ek are the MVP’s as they have gobbled up minutes and played at a high level.
