You can’t compare Makar’s contract with Darnell Nurse’s – Oilersnation Radio

Comparing Cale Makar and Darnell Nurse needs to stop, especially the contracts of both players.

  1. A stagnant salary cap is a huge part of this too. If the cap had grown over the lasts three years we wouldn’t still be talking about this as much.

  2. We could have had nurse locked down 3-4 years ago at 7M per
BUT Holland wanted to lock down Zack Kassian Nurse took a two year bridge contract club discount.
Then he gets the Big 9M deal pre Covina. If Covina didn't happen the cap is 9 million higher today and we don't even notice it.

  3. Regardless of what you think he is worth we would be way better off with 2-3 players totalling the same cap hit. Nurse and Ceci on the top line is embarrassing 5-5 and absolutely brutal on the PK..

  4. The best player set the standard of the pay scale. Nurse’s contract should never be higher than Maker’s. End of story. Nurse is playing ok this year, and he is overpaid by 4M. Tyler, don’t try to protect Nurse. You don’t get a fair value if you are trading Nurse at 9.25M. A 9.25M D is a #1 D on a true cup contender and would be on #1 PP, #1 on PK, is a game changer D on some nights. Nurse never was/is near this ability. Salary is always measured against performance. If he didn’t sign a reasonable contract in the UFA year, you can always trade him or walk away from it.

  5. I think the highest paid player should be the goalie. He is the only full-time employee for ice time. Everyone else in a part-timer. Sure, about half the game is played on the other side of the rink; but still, it all funnels down to the net. Nurse could (maybe) be traded, and the extra money could be invested into an actual first class goaltender. Much needed.

  6. Nurse and his agent should have taken a look around before demanding that salary. Are they that butthurt over a bride dealx2? He should be making 7 mill/per. Handcuffed his GM who won't be back when his contract is up.

  7. If nurse didn’t come with that 9mill contract then other teams would actually take him as trade… more like a 5 million over pay

  8. Ya. I agree. I think it's really the mismanagement before Holland was here that led to nurse being expensive. If the oilers would have signed nurse before his best season then the oilers would be in a better spot but let's be honest here.

The oilers needed nurse soo bad when he signed and they still need him. Who tf would you replace him with?
