I played hockey in my teens and early 20's, just independent leagues. I was a bit smaller than most players, but was a great defender, pretty decent goalie. But as defender, I was the instigator. Being of smaller stature from most everyone else, I was able to get up under the offense players and poke them in the ribs and armpits with the butt of my stick, to provoke a fight, it annoyed the larger offensive players to start a fight with me. I never won a single fight, but my team mates would come to my defense, but 10 out 10 it would result in a penalty on the opposing team.
