It’s Been a Rough December for the Red Wings

The Wings have been finding ways to lose games this month, games they could have won and it could mean no playoffs in 2024.

  1. Yzerplan isn’t a bust, I just think as fans we’re focusing on too short a window. We’ve brought up 2 out of our massive pool of fresh talent, and I agree with Shannon, berggren should be on the team full time. I think we’re in a weird holding pattern waiting for more young players to come up and waiting/praying for the development of Cossa into our #1 guy. It’s all gonna take a few years and unfortunately it might be this kind of up and down hockey until then. I still think we can salvage this year if we can get put of this rut and change our mindset especially when leading games. i have hope, but I'm also tired of losing. Better Defence and Goaltending in 2024!

  2. Goalies are sub par. Defense caught out of position frequently. Especially Walman. No physical presence in front of net. Too many redirected goals. Some guys not taking another step. Stalling out at good players but not reaching star player. Absolutely blowing games that should be wins. Not sure if its lackadaisical or not able to match desperation energy of opponents.

  3. I think it's ironic that Yzerman put such a strong emphasis on 2-way centerman, in both signings and drafting, and the #1 problem is, they don't have a single player who covers the late man in the slot. Every single time!!! Every team has figured out that if they get a 2 man rush into the zone, both forwards head straight for the net. 3 Wings WILL follow! Drop the pass to the WIDE OPEN trailer, and it's a goal every time.

  4. Thanks for the video. Some weird coaching decisions, lots of injuries which has caused lines to be constantly mixed up, a defense that wants to score goals rather than defend. There are so many things you can point a finger at behind this terrible run of form. The lack of time to practice has really hampered us in Dec.

  5. Our goaltending has been abysmal and we need a new defensive system. I don't know what happened in December, but the amount of goals we've given up due to missed coverage in the defensive zone went through the roof. As much as I like Seider, he hasn't been playing well and neither has Wallman. Edvinson needs to be in the lineup in place of somebody, and I'd like to see Berggren there as well. Either way, something's got to give soon.

  6. the lines are changed a lot because of injury. its hard to figure out the root of the problem if you play 15 games in a month and having to constantly change the lines around. also it seems like a few guys are trying to battle through injuries when they dont have to. the wings have a solid group down in the AHL to get a call up to let people get a real recovery

  7. Rough is an absolute understatement. The lack of heart and identity is why I became a Panthers fan last year. Patrick Kane coming over here got me very excited. We finally had superstar, talent and reputation wearing the winged wheel. It was squandered, I couldn’t have less respect for the lack of effort of this team. And I don’t think Lalonde could lead a Boy Scout troop. Our team has no guts and there’s a complete lack of leadership. Michael Rasmussen is not a hard-working player… in the past he may have been but he’s been out of place and slow this season. He’s a big body with no strength and struggles to even clear the puck. I don’t know what the hell you see there but I disagree.

  8. Thanks Shannon! Injuries and poor goaltending/defense are to blame. It would be nice to have a top tier Goalie. To me I do think the depth isn't as solid as we thought it was, and maybe there are some coaching issues. When teammates are colliding with each other more than once, clearly someone is out of position. We were all hoping bruises would mend over the short break and everyone would come back at 100%. Clearly, that isn't the case. I still have faith in StevieY. I also do kinda agree it is @terproov's fault.

  9. Defense has been terrible. So many players out of position or not moving their feet. We give the other team multiple breakaways every game. Our goalie has to face 10 odd man rushes per game too.

  10. Unfortunately for us wings fans, this time leading up to the deadline will prove to be a dress rehearsal for Kane and Ghost. Id like to see Steve try a buy guys like Lindholm and Hanafin, we are tired of being in the middle. This team has proved to be a threat at times.

  11. All I know is if Yzerman wasn't a franchise legend their would be serious questions being asked

This guy acquired Petry, Chariot, Gostisbehere, Holl, Copp, Reimer, drafting has been bad, coaching has been bad

  12. at the end of the season, if Detroit is ahead of buffalo, ottawa and montreal, it was a success. if not, it's a failure.
i doubt they can hold the habs behind them tho.

  13. This rough month shows how fragile this team is. There is a severe lack of depth at defense and goaltending. They need 2 solid D and a good NHL ready goalie to be a legit playoff team. They need to consider trading top prospects and players and draft picks to achieve this to get this team going in right direction. Considering how many draft picks they've had the last several years, they should now be in a position to make some major trades.

  14. The injuries were a big part of the problems early on and messed up the line chemistry they had going. Now that people are getting healthy is time to go back to the original plan. Kane and DeBrincat on the second line and Raymond back with Larkin and another wing that can skate. Spread the scoring back down the lineup. Kane was never meant to be on the top line.

  15. I think some of the players need to be swapped out lol upgraded, I also want to see Sprong on with Kane for some reason 😅. Goalies are an issue, but hard to blame most of these goals of late on the goalie …..Riemer actually looked really good last night for once…….ahhh it hurts to be a Redwings fan.

  16. Haven't been the same since the Larkin injury. I see them turning it around, they have a really deep forward team. The defense needs to stop pinching on 50/50 pucks and just play solid! We need a goalie to consistantly be a .900 save%, which isnt too much to ask. If we can get that We will be really tough to beat!

  17. They have been a mess in basically every facet of the game this month. Same defense is incredibly soft and careless, creating way too many high danger chances for our goalies to work with. We don't get a big save when we need it, but we need too many. The offense has been better, but that's not saying much. They just can't generate anything some nights, and I'm honestly shocked our power play is scored as often as it has, because it is very ugly to watch.

The narrative that this is on the coach is already growing, but I think that's just people resorting to the easy explanation, and the easy "fix". This team has played hard against and beaten several good teams this year. When they shut out New Jersey and shut down Boston, they look like a totally different scene, playing a totally different style. The position themselves well in the neutral zone and force turnovers, and possess the puck much better. They just don't play this way nearly consistently enough.

  18. I blame myself for the recent struggles. Been having a rough go of things, a woman who I thought was the one left for another lover, a family member fell ill, and the jobs been getting to me. My stress has affected the team, my apologies to Wings fans. We are both getting it together in 2024! LGRW 🐙 🏒 🤘

  19. The one thing that’s worth pointing out is how a lot of prospects since Steve took over are still developing. Still waiting on Kasper, Mazur, etc.. Trade deadline will be fun this year!

  20. lifelong Wings fan who still believes 100% in the Yzerplan, so call it copium or w/e…

nothing needs to be done to fix it moves wise, maybe reimer for a piece when the goalies are back, maybe a scene swap trade or similar… being 3 points out at new year isn't far off the realistic prediction, this years aim from Stevie was clear, be actually fighting for a playoff spot in April…. we're there, took a great start and a terrible month to get there, would certainly love to be above 75% on the power play winning a lot more, but the hammer was going to swing the other way

and on Kane, LOOOOOVE the signing, glad to have him, hope he can get a cup with us, certainly isn't the issue, he signed right when our leader and our heart and mind vet were both out, and the injury bug has hit us hard, found his game quick and has been an impact player, hopefully Raymond will learn some two way play from him 😛

  21. Considering the stated emphasis on team defense, this team has been downright awful in that regard. Combine that with zero wins when scoring fewer than 4 goals and you have… whatever this is.
