The New Jersey Devils defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-3 in overtime. Luke Hughes and Dawson Mercer played vital roles in the third period and kept the Devils’ chances alive. Whereas, Timo Meier scored the game-winning goal in OT. While the win was exciting and imperative, it still wasn’t the Devils’ best performance.

Your power play question attracted some attention last night.
“Come playoff time?!” This team is not going to the playoffs if we do not adjust our coaching staff and offensive zone play. I’m tired of hearing about our defense and goaltending. Our offense is atrocious, zero cycle play, board reads, point shots, rotations, it is complete and utter garbage. We look for a perfect pass and lose the puck and put all pressure back on our D.
Let’s discuss this issue. It is clear.
How can anyone support Lindy Ruff any more? How many more lack luster performances do we have to sit through? Columbus has some good players, but they are not a good team. They should not have even been in this game. The bottom line is the Devils don't have a work ethic like they did last year…it's almost like there was another coach here who isn't now. Oh yeah, that happened. We are back to under-performing with Ruff. Fire that guy.
Defensive consistency is everything at this level. Period
They need to add a bruising blue liner and stop waiting for perfect shots.
Stop worrying about Lindy and watch the actual issues. Defensive guys are simply out of position too much. They need to bring in an enforcer as well. This team is loaded and can do great things if they simplify and play smart consistently.
And Hamilton out is a god send. His offense is not what’s important, his awful defense was much more important as he gave up so many chances every sinGle game. His offense is great but the trade off is not worth it ever at this level. Do miss him on the power play though lol
Shocked we won this game. This team still really worries me, not really sure if playoffs are in the future for the devils.

They're the come back kids because they're young, sloppy, and inexperienced defensively.
I'm not sleeping on any teams. The "basement" teams in the NHL (Sharks, Ducks, Jackets) have all shown that they are bad, but they are STILL NHL teams and they are STILL dangerous.
I'm gonna hope this one was sloppy because they just came off break, but they've just not been playing well…
Still think Schmid is much better than Vitek. Give him 5 games in a row.
Several games back I said this team run out of ideas on the PP and by the end of the year their PP will be dead last in the league. I was wrong. It will be dead last well before the end of the season. There is not a single player on the team who is brave to shoot the puck, who can shoot the puck.
Devils havent even given Severson during-the-game tribute! To a player who played for the team for 9 years. Not nice by the Devils
