Auston Matthews has been the NHL’s best goal scorer this season. In this video, we take a deeper look at how he’s scoring goals & how his ability to find space has him in position to potentially challenge Alex Ovechkin & Wayne Gretzky for the all time goal record years from now.

  1. it is all worthless…. when you forget where the goal stands come playoff time. Sorry, thats the truth. Brotlose Kunst, as we say in germany.

  2. I feel like everyone loves to just ignore the insane longevity OV has had. Matthews is pacing slightly better yes, but he needs to still be scoring 40 a year in his late 30s as OV has done, which is INSANELY rare.

  3. šŸ¤£šŸ˜‚šŸ¤£šŸ˜‚šŸ¤£šŸ˜‚šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

  4. The reason people hate the queefs is theyre too ignorant to comprehend why anybody would hate them . Theres more haters than there are fans for a reason . Facts are 32 out of 32 teams would take at least 10 other players before Matthews and Mcdavid is #1 , if Mcdavid sat in the pocket 24/7 and had Marner feeding passes hed be far ahead of purse boy . Just wait till " the core four " comes to an end due to lack of success and purse boy never hits 50 again lol .

  5. People are forgetting about how ovechkin was extending that pace deep in to his 30s. Thats is what is the impressive part. Matthews is an elite player no doubt but i will only beleive it when hes doing this in his mid 30s.

  6. Stopped watching this weak video when you bring in some Random ASIAN Analytics ā€œexpertā€ Junkā€¦.
I stopped video exactly when you put his Face up and said Analytics.
Whatever The China man had to sayā€¦ā€¦..is not the reason. X IT

  7. Curious: what is the most goals scored by a player who never won the Stanley Cup? Did Ovi ever break that record, before becoming ineligible for it in 2018?

Whoever has that record, yes, there is a good chance of Matthews taking it away from him permanently.

  8. theres definitely room to see where matthews goes with it, but im also curious about where mcdavid will end up slotting into all of this because i think it's possible for him too

  9. As a bruins fan I hope he gets it. Ovechkin is a POS who can gargle pootin wrinkly nutsack, if he even has one. šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡¦

  10. Auston Matthews and the Leafs are the BEST IN THE WORLD.. ask a leafs fan, theyā€™ll tell you all about itā€¦. For hoursā€¦ and 2 am calls at nightā€¦ and when watching UFCā€¦. And when itā€™s summer and hockey is overā€¦ and when theyā€™re alone in a room.., or in a dark part of a forest.. with nobody around to listen.. Theyā€™ll still talk about the Leafs

  11. Matthews is probably going to need to switch to wing at some point in the later part of his career if he wants to challenge Ovi and Wayne. I don't trust the longevity of a center in the game today to continuously pot 40-50 goals a season well into his late 30's.

  12. Matthews also went 10 straight games without a goal this yearā€¦ lolā€¦.

Maybe his recent hot streak makes up for that, but if he didnā€™t have that drought + still had his current hot streak, heā€™d be at like 32-38 goals in 30 games lol

Very interested to see what will happen this year ā€¦

  13. Ovi is a Russian tank. His longevity is almost more impressive than his scoring.

Technology and science has improved greatly so if matthews can utilize that to stay healthy, wellā€¦ itā€™ll be very interesting in 10 years

  14. Let the boys play proper defense, bring back the center ice line and this hyper-scoring "hockey" goes away. Padded offensive numbers these days.

  15. I'm glad, all Ovechkin ever does is stand there and wait for a pass, basically pawning off all the work on his teammates, and he just has a simple tap in. So boring, and so unoriginal, I've been doing that in EA NHL for decades šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

  16. Austin Matthews, who is this guy??? Oh ya, heā€™s the guy who becomes invisible come playoff time. Ridiculous statement he ll score over 70 or score more than Ovi, absolutely ridiculous

  17. this sort of voice influctuation is so cringe
Talking like this… To sound more interesting…. All to grab your attention

  18. This is what we (anyone thatā€™s not a leafs fan) canā€™t stand is this biased media coverage. It disgusting to hear every year of how great their team and or each player. Not doubting Mathews game but he isnā€™t the messiah of the game! This is the teamā€™s usual push thru the season and then shit the bed year after year outta the playoffs. Leafs may a prolific goal scorer but will never win a championship ever again. Unfortunately the media will never say anything bad of any Toronto sporting team. But putting this guy on a pedestal makes everyone šŸ¤¢šŸ¤®

  19. It's going to be a tall order for sure. You pointed out in the beginning of the video how average he was in other important aspects of the game. As his skill level degrades with age, the flaws in his game will become problematic.

  20. damn dude can you not give away his tactics and edit the video your decoding the team for the other teams little did you know

  21. And this is where saying a certain player is the best at something should never be said. Ovi started in a defensive heavy league, where as Matthews has not. also same with the great one. If you placed Ovi during the 70s to 80s where goal scoring was through the rough Goalies not being nearly as big as they are now, also not many played a butterfly style game Ovi could have been the one holding the goal record. In this video you mentioned certain number of games played… well why not take into account of the era of those games played, also how much different the offensive numbers were around the league. Matthews is good, but considering Ovi Has these numbers despite starting when the league was low on goal scoring in general is something that needs to be taken into account.

  22. He creates a lot of those offensive zone turnovers himself, one thing I notice about Matthews is how quick his stick is wether itā€™s lifting another players stick , getting the shot off or making the quick pass. He might not have the softest and most flashy hands in the league but definitely one of the quickest.

  23. every since Wayne retired this conversation pops up every few years with a different name attached to it. Ovi still hasnt broken the record and he might not. Who knows. But to take a shot at Wayne you need to be in the league 15 years. After 15 years then make a case for said player. Yea Papi can bang like the best but you gotta do it every game, every years for the entire length of your career which needs to be a minimum of 20 years. Ovi will get the record or die trying lol but Papi needs to be even better now then Ovi was to even have a shot at catching Ovi……Shoot me a message in another 7 years and lets have this convo then lol

A lot of people often focus on the guy scoring and not the guy passing. In order for Papi to even have a shot, he needs the passes. He's getting them now, but again, is he going to keep getting them the next 10+ years. Wayne has Jari, Ovi has Backi….Mathews right now has sort of mix, nylander, marner….I live in the states and I look up to USA born players but overall goal record is as much about the team then the player. You cant put up all those goals with playmakers and even more importantly, enforcers. Maybe not as important today as they were 80/90's but they still play a role.
