Canadian MMA Performance of the Year 2023

Canadian MMA Performance of the Year 2023

Hey what’s up guys we’re back for another end of the year list for 2023 in the world of Canadian mixed martial arts and today we’re looking at the performance of the year which is simply the best performance against the best possible opponent this year for a Canadian fighter because yes we’ve seen

Some incredible performances by plenty Fighters but the strength of competition is what makes the difference on this list the best performance against the best possible opponent is what will get you ranked on the performance of the year list and we won’t lose any more time you guys don’t have all day for

This [ __ ] so let’s go on with the honorable mentions which are as follows Danny Mallet against jorda balmir at Samurai MMA five Tommy Morrison against Matt Dawson at Samurai mma8 sha Jordan against Ricardo Ramos at UFC Vegas 79 lupig ginz against Elise Reed at no UFC

And Mike mot against Yan Lenz at UFC Vegas 70 and at number 10 Dorian daai against Christian savwa at Fight League Atlantic 7 the first Canadian main event of 2023 was a weird one as Dorian duai came into Mountain New Brunswick to fight against seven and one Christian

Savwa in a fight where he he was given up a lot of experience to his opponent that the guy was only three and one at the time and he did very well in that fight lost a point in round one for an illegal shut to the back of the head

Which is a questionable call then absolutely dominated Sav in round number two to get the 108 and basically even the fight up after two rounds and then absolutely did his thing in round number three but got deducted a point for another shot to the back of the head in

Round three in one of the most baffling referee decision that you’re going to see this year making it a an even round and a draw but Dorian D guy absolutely deserved to won that fight the fight was only a draw because he lost two points in it he would have won according to

Every other metric in the world and just to to to go into enemy territory and basically defeat uh the local guy who is also a guy that has twice your experience and who is very close to making it to the UFC that’s an amazing performance for Daran

Deai so he may have not gotten the win in that fight on paper but I got a salute his performance whatsoever and that’s why he gets number 10 on the list at number nine we’ve got Xavier Nash against Alex O’Neal at unified 53 and just when you think that it’s time to

Write off Xavier Nash once again it just proves to you that you can’t do that ever Nash came into that fight on a two-fight losing streak lost a split decision very close split decis decision to Achilles estrad earlier in the year that went out to Samurai MMA and got TKO

In 34 seconds against Robert S and that’s the moment when you’re like Xavier Nash had an amazing run became an elite lightweight in the country but like is this the time where it it kind of falls back to where it was before when he was a 500 fighter and NOP

Absolutely not because he came into his next fight against Alex O’Neal an undefeated fighter with a lot of hpe and Xavier n just put it on him dominated him and choked him out in round three for the win and just remember everybody that you can’t ever count Xavier Nash

Out at number eight sha jde against Crown Gracie and it maybe wasn’t the best fight on the list probably the worst to be honest it wasn’t a very entertaining matchup but to see sha Jord be super calm and collected and intelligent and a fight is one of the

Most reassuring thing that we’ve ever seen in Canadian MMA history basically basically because sh is known to be a wild card like the guy is super talented but he’s crazy he wants to fight he wants to bring the action and like he he prefers being entertaining for the fan

Than like coming in with a strategic game plan to win the fight and everything and against Kon Gracie he just knew that if he [ __ ] around he would find out so he didn’t [ __ ] around he was able to spend some time on the ground with the BJJ black belt and just

Be intelligent in his guard be very careful with the way that truest punches and everything just stay calm and collected and out of danger for the full duration of the fight and to see him put on such a mature performance was very encouraging for Sha’s future I think

It’s the day that sha became a man that we’ve seen him uh take some very mature decisions in the cage and it was a great performance I I got to highlight it and that’s why I got it at number eight on the list at number seven we’ve got John

W and maed ammo at Uni fight 52 and the read on that fight was that John wi was going to be better than Majed on the feet but Majed is the guy the kind of guy who gets Hur and gets back up and just finds a way to survive and finds a

Way to drag the fight down to the ground and there like he’s just an amazing Grappler who Advance his position and is able to drown his opponent and submit them most of the time and johnw never let it get to that stage he just brutalized maam mu on the

Feet you got to watch that fight and just think a mag’s going to survive this is classic maet he’s getting ear but he’s going to survive but John W just never let the pressure off and did not let magette survive he just killed him off in the first round became the

Unified 145b champion in a in a career defining performance John W is one of the prospects to watch now because of that win and that’s why I had to put him on that list at number seven number six now Jesse Ronson Rodrigo Vargas and yeah Jesse Ronson we all know his caliber we

All know that he should be fighting for one of the biggest promotions in the world and he proved it once again at Samurai MMA 6 when he fought Rodrigo Vargas who was fresh off his UFC run and he just punched him in the body and finished him in the first round in a

Couple of minutes Jesse Ronson is just the best and you can give him UFC level opponents or you can give him cans or you can give him anybody he’s gonna crush them like their cans whoever he’s got in front of him and that was just another example of it Jesse Ronson

Rodrigo Vargas at Samurai MMA 6 at number five oam the Canadian gangster against Shane Bergos I spoke about that fight like it was the Revenge but yeah Alo was very strategic in that fight like he’s been for his old pfl run for like the old two years where he was

Competing for the million dollars he really was super strategic at all time and that was the case with Jane beros and the way like I said before uh that he just backpacked him and frustrated him after Shane beros had just did that to sha J it was absolutely poetic it was

A great performance and probably his best performance of the year at the pfl number four Aman zi a chang UFC 289 and going into that fight there were I I won’t say some Dows because I think a man was rightfully so the favorite but Al Chang is very tough is a guy who

Always went to the decision who always brought on the the fight to his opponent and always made it exciting and back and forth and and complicated and a manabi had some success with his overand right knocking some people out in the previous fights and he used the overend to force

His opponent to go back in a straight line and absolutely connected with the left hook that he threw after the overran so used his biggest punch to set up another knockout punch an amazing left hook knockout in the very first round to really get it going at UFC 289

Before that we had K Nelson di belbita but they were both decisions and maybe not like the the most thrilling fights even though they were win for Canadians as zabi really put it on on another level and it never went down from there at UFC 289 so he’s got number four on

The list and at number three it’s another UFC 289 matchup as we’ve got Jasmine JZ decious mirand mad Vick Jasmine was not the favorite at all she was probably one of the biggest if not the biggest Underdog on the old card and like she did not want to hear that at

All because she came out of that fight and absolutely dominated Maverick uh with her punches with her wrestling we really saw her go back to her old aggressive striking style that I liked so much and like we discussed with ER and Chris pricket after the fight that

Was the game plan to be that but with defense which is the thing that maybe was lacking in her previous UFC performances even on the contender series and she got kicked in the head very flush at a point and I still to this day don’t know how she didn’t get

Knocked out from that blow but yeah the defense was there the offense was there the takedowns everything was there super complete performance and big upset win for Jasmine JZ vicious in that fight she gets number three on the performances of the year list and at number two Mikel

Zuar Lis paa and you know that far had two of these performances this year where he just went into enemy territory and defeated the the the the local fighter was also a UFC vet and a very well reged Regional fighter in Lis Peña he just guillotined them brutally in the

Very first round and you knew that I had to give M fall at least one spot on this list come on he’s my guy and his performances were incredible so I had to give that to him and at number one if you really thought that I wasn’t good

Going to give him one and two you guys were absolutely crazy because number one mik fall janetti the guy went to Boston with a ABS t-shirt and absolutely [ __ ] their guy up like super easily took his back put him on a red naked choke on his

Jaw uh Janet didn’t want to defend the red naked choke for a reason or another like I understand that like he wasn’t under the neck so he he kind of was wrongfully not concerned by the choke but yeah he got choked out in very first

Round fall won the belt is now the cage Titan FC Champion that’s his first belt as a professional and he probably made it look even more easy than against Lis Peña so of course he gets the first spot or of course he gets the second spot of

Course he needs to fight for the UFC or the pfl or something like that next year because he’s in the prime of his career he’s one of the best lightweights in the world when I say that I absolutely believe it migar could make waves for for any major promotion right now and he

Needs to get the chance and that’s why I had to put him at one and two for the performances of the Year 2023 mik El and that concludes the list give us a like give us a share give us a comment anything uh would be appreciated also
