  1. No matter what, it is way way way too early for Petey to have decided a destination, and also made the decision to go there so early.

People need to learn to see qualifiers like “don’t be surprised” “there has been a lot of talk”. While I understand reporters need to protect sources, those are great indicators for speculation bait. A reporter should at least give you an idea of what type of rumopr theyre reporting and what kind of people were talking about it.

Be funny if the guy go the wrong elias and was talking about the prospect from Sweden not petey

  3. De_Floppss

Probably heard a reporter ask Petey if he’d ever like to play with Bedard and just ran with an obvious answer of yes

  4. RytheGuy97

Disclaimer: I don’t actually think this is going to happen but if I have to imagine Petey in a Blackhawks jersey so do you

Friedman calls the reporting premature, but doesn’t deny it, which I think is a bit odd. As if this could be a path Pettersson explores if something doesn’t get done here, but it goes against literally everything Pettersson has said up to this point. Im starting to get the vibe that Pettersson is searching more to get paid now as opposed to prioritizing winning, which was always his stated MO.

I’m pretty confident something will get done here, but if Vancouver makes their big swing and Pettersson doesn’t bite, they need to start looking at their options immediately. I know it’s the skeptic in me from being a Canucks fan for 30 years, but this is not a player we can afford to fuck up on. If he doesn’t want to sign here for 3+ years, we need to try and turn him into another promising C, otherwise we may as well tear it down. Miller/Suter is not an option we can seriously go forward with.

This probably just means talks are really heating up, and the two sides are a million or so apart. Standard agent playbook to leak something like this at the height of the negotiation to get the other side to put some urgency on signing for slightly higher than they are offering.

  7. stilllaughing

There’s just so many better destinations for him, unless he’s some crazy Bedard fan and he doesn’t want anyone to know

  8. dontmatterme810

Seems like someone on Petey’s team is spreading rumors to get a better deal.

  9. TheRealTollah

This is just to farm clicks from us, guys. Friedman does not sell truth, he sells entertainment.

  10. Why do we keep giving credence to this garbage journalism? Pettersson is an RFA this summer and all signs point to him resigning with the Canucks before then. If he still hasn’t signed by then, sure we can talk about potential trades, but a new article every week about a different potential destination for Petey feels like beating a dead horse.

  11. RainDancingChief

I have no doubt in my mind Petey would take a deal to a team on better shape than us.

But Chicago isn’t it far as I’m concerned.

  12. nigookmixbear

I think this is just people getting attention with tweets and supporting eachother in their careers of getting attention through tweets.

  13. querulous

i think pettersson just doesn’t like vancouver. it’s not a great city for a young, single guy who likes nightlife. especially one as high profile as pettersson. chicago makes a lot of sense as a destination if it’s lifestyle he’s looking for given vegas, new york and miami aren’t likely to be options given their cap sheets

  14. I’m starting to wonder if we are gonna walk away from Petey and Hronek this offseason…

  15. electricalphil

If he wants to get a big payday, he better start driving play, because he certainly isn’t right now. I expect criticism for saying this, but he hasn’t played up to what he’s asking for.

  16. theEMPTYlife

This is such a bizarre rumour. In no way I think it’s real, but Eliot’s comments do now make me think this is a tactic being used by the agent. And it’s Chicago. You know, that one team this market historically hates and that hatred has been recently kinda of reignited by the drafting of Lynn Valley’s own generational talent Conor Bedard? Like, it just pushed so many specific buttons for me I thought for sure it was a troll, but now I think Petey’s agent is just trying to make the market mad as hell to pressure the team to get a better offer. It’s dirty, but hey I guess you gotta do what you gotta do for your client. What I don’t get is that Petey has stated over and over again his desire to win. Get your bag, but the more you take, the harder it is to construct around.

  17. IndependentTalk4413

What would be the cost to Chicago for an offer sheet? Wouldn’t it be multiple 1st rd picks? I don’t see them making that move with where the Blackhawks are in their rebuild.

  18. Sinochick

Is this the equivalent of “oh we see a private plane flying from Anaheim to Toronto so Ohtani must be on that plane”???? LOL

These are the facts from what I’ve seen having followed Petey closely:

    – He and William Nylander are not close. But Petey is friends with Alex Nylander.

    – The Spittin Chiclets guy lives in Timra and looking at his IG he does follow one of Petey’s friends. But he doesn’t follow Petey.

    – This is probably all part of negotiations. These rumours probably just means that both sides are starting their negotiations now and using the public and media as its weapons.

It would not surprise me if Petey signs his deal with the Canucks during the All Star break. That’s when Kuzmenko signed his deal. I just hope Petey signs a max term deal so we don’t have to deal with these rumours anymore. If he signs a 3/4 year deal, Canuck fans will be in crisis mode when Demko/Quinn/Petey’s deal all expire within a year or two of each other.

  19. ubcthrowaway-01

He’s entering his prime. I doubt he trying to land himself on a team that’s about 5 years away from competing

  20. funkiemarky

Plot twist, this is Petey telling Bedard to come to the Canucks.

  21. Anishinabeg

I’ve never heard of this Murley guy, and Armstrong was a very mediocre hockey player.

Never mind that the main podcast on this “network” is hosted by arguably the worst player in NHL history and a bottom pairing defenseman known for being an absolute jackass off the ice.

I’d love for “spittin chiclets” to just disappear. It’s awful.

  22. endlesscosmichorror

This is probably a passing comment made by Petey taken out of context

Like “hell yeah I’d love to play with Bedard who wouldn’t want to play with the kid!?”

Media turns it into **Pettersson to sign 30 year deal with Blackhawks, Retire as Mayor of Chicago**

  23. 21marvel1

Friedman also said per the article: “ “I believe that the Vancouver Canucks have decided that when Pettersson is ready, they’re going to throw a significantly sized bag of cash at him. One that might have trouble fitting into a small SUV,” Friedman added. “I think the Canucks have made a decision. They’re gonna do this.” “

  24. Raincouvercity

If this is true, the jokes on Petterson when Bedard asks to be traded to Vancouver.
