[Lance Lysowski] The Sabres decision to waive Tyson Jost may seem inconsequential, but it raises some significant questions. They’ve misfired on multiple UFAs the past two summers. Spending is way up in Rochester. They have one pro scout working with Jeremiah Crowe.

  1. It’s of no shock based on the season – but the whole article just paints such a bleak photo. It genuinely feels like Adams has no support from scouts to help find players to join the club in FA, so takes swings at “names” hoping they’ll stick. And has left us where we’re at now. Bunch of over paid fringe NHL guys, and a coach who has no clue what his roster truly has.

Adams was and remains an enormous overcorrection for GMTM. Whether it’s one year from now or two, when he’s finally done here everyone will agree on this. Coaching is enormously important, but when you’re plugging roster holes with randos on their way out of the NHL it’s not going to end well.

Jost, Stillman, Robinson, Comrie, Johnson. Great case to be made that none of them sign with another pro squad if the Sabres didn’t make moves for them.

The Sabres website lists 11 scouts. They don’t seem to specify if someone is a pro scout or an amateur scout. So I don’t know where this “one pro scout” thing is coming from.

Edit: It’s also a little weird to consider Jost a UFA that didn’t work out. He was brought in on waivers, the Sabres liked him, so they brought him back for a year. I think that’s very different than taking a big swing and missing during free agency.

  4. Am I crazy in thinking we keep trying to find cheap deals on the fa list? Cliftton is showing signs of life but most of these signings have been awful. We have so many prospects and a decent amount of cap room, let’s trade some prospects for some nhl ready players. An old Eric Johnson is not going to get to the playoffs or cup, there is a reason why these teams don’t re-sign these players.

Adams has no experience. None. Pegula picked a GM to run a National Hockey team who had never been in a front office before. That was never a winning move.

Terry Pegula continues to refuse to hire a President to help Adams. Terry Pegula either doesn’t give a fuck about winning or is a clueless moron. Terry slashed the scouting budget, bitched about his quality of life, put his wife in charge and refuses to hire experienced hockey minds. Terry Pegula is one of the worst owners in NHL history.
