    SLUTFEST, folks!

    * We all needed a game like that.
    * Big games by our big stars: Jack and Jesp
    * Don’t look now but our penalty kill is doing real well lately
    * Multi-point nights for Bratters, Jack, Luke!
    * A good fucking goaltender performance and debut this season by Nico Daws. He was solid. So so so solid.
    * BRENDAN SMITH FIRST GOAL AS A NEW JERSEY DEVIL AND WHAT A GOAL
    * He also, unfortunately, caused both of the goals against. Whoops.
    * FREE HOLTZ, PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, FREE HIM.
    * Two power play goals.
    * I know Ottawa isn’t top of the league or anything, but we’ve had such a shitty time against teams that are meant to be worse than us, so this was encouraging.
    * Also, I dunno I thought we looked like we played a pretty good sixty minute effort. Kept Ottawa’s chances to a minimum and rode the wave when they were attacking.
    * There were some like bad passes and dumb moves in our zone, but for the most part we didn’t get pinned in and we had really good offensive zone pressure and possession.
    * Tomorrow is a massive test. Back to back against Boston. VV in net. We are also traveling tonight. Plus we have yet to win four games in a row, so tomorrow can be really massive.

Last game of 2023 tomorrow night! See everyone then!

  2. Rags just lost and the isles are beating the breaks off the caps

  3. -PoeticJustice-

Love to see that. The kind of game we know they can play. They just need some timely saves. That save on Tkachuk’s breakaway at 2-1 basically won the game. Dawson scores shortly after and they were able to take it to the Sens the rest of the game.

idc who makes the timely saves, Daws, Vitek, Schmid, they just need to get those.

  4. john_browns_beard

Our opponents simply cannot handle the power of two Nicos on one team.

  5. SoccerLife243

Crazy how the difference between 14th(Devs) and 1st(Rags) in the league is only 9 points.

  6. jerseygunz

I have, still am, and probably will continue to shit on Brendan Smith, but god damn if a goal out of the box is not my favorite thing in sports, you’ve earned 2 weeks of good will, LFGD!!!!😈😈😈😈😈😈

  7. PFalcone33

Great game! Second period was beautiful hockey to watch. The puck movement was outstanding. They should be proud and bring this confidence into tomorrow night.

  8. Really encouraging game from Daws. I was really struck that he seemed to have some semblance of control over his rebounds, which is something we’ve been sorely lacking this year.

And just an all around strong game. Good players looked good, no glaring breakdowns, Brendan Smith shocking the world. The kind of low-stress game we haven’t had a ton of this season. Now let’s do it again tomorrow.

  9. MartysBetter29

Most 22-23 Devils win of the 23-24 season. More like that, please.

  10. Daws was the difference. If they can get a consistent tendy they’ll be in the playoffs. If not 🤷‍♂️

Me and my buddy cranked Rock n Roll Pt 2 & We are the Champions rolling out of Canadian Tire Centre tonight. What a win! Been lucky enough to witness 11 goals in 2 games this season in Montreal & Ottawa!

  12. boredandmotivatedV2

Ran into a mother & son from Newark after the game. They were in the area and stopped by to support the boys! LETS GO DEVILS

Anyone think that the home ice (which to me often appears to be in shitty condition) could have a factor in the difference between our home and away record? I admit it doesn’t make much sense because both teams play on it, and you’d think that the team that played on it more often would have the advantage of being used to it. But it seems to affect our game a lot – slows us down, causes passes to miss, etc. I don’t know, the difference is just weird

    12/29 Goalie Performance – Daws .926 / Schmid .857

Daws in Jersey gets the W allowing 2 goals on 27 shots while
Schmid in Utica takes the loss with 5 allowed on 35 shots.

  15. -thisismyusername---

My first live Devils game in 10 years and I get to watch Brendan Smith turn into Mario Lemieux on a breakaway.

What a time to be alive.

  16. Daws should get the start on Wednesday against the caps.

  17. Bill and Dano said Nico Daws just got a Golden Retriever. I have a Golden too. I like him even more now! Great game. Nice not to sweat the end for once.

  18. Saw_Doctor

Got a Daws tat on my face after the game 💪🏼

I’m no goalie coach, but Daws looked pretty good. He seemed to move well and showed calm and poise in net. That first one would have been a tough one for any goalie to save. The second he had no chance.
I don’t think Daws faced more than a few difficult shots but his positioning and rebounds were sensible. My favorite part was how he kept his front facing the shooter (which we can’t always take for granted apparently). I wonder how Daws would do against some more crafty teams.

  20. Wow, what can I say? The team is finally back to firing on all cylinders. Hope Timo’s ok. Jesper turning into a superstar, Holtz rounding out his lunchpail game.

  21. Sam__Eagle

I feel like it’s crazy that they don’t promote bratt more. Like his jersey is non existent to buy at the arena.

  22. Redditfront2back

I was -1 Luke goal and +1 Jack shot from hitting my parlay, oh well the 2 points are way more important

  23. Best game they played since the o.t win vs Boston. Still worried about Ruffs system, so many high quality chances but Daws bailed them out

  24. Level-Variation-8208

I feel like you can really see the difference when they’re on (someone else’s) better ice. Crisp passing, no players flopping down every other minute, etc. It adds up. And stands to reason that it would more heavily impact our play style than some other teams.

    Super fun game.

  25. ilovehenrique14

That Brendan Smith goal is textbook “Even the worst NHL player would absolutely dust anybody in hockey”

  26. Most dominant win of the season against an inferior team on the road. THAT was the devils team I remember from last year. Daws played well, all we’re looking for at this point is league average goaltending and we can beat anybody is a 7 game series. Keep the faith, go devils!
