The Story of Patrick Kane’s First 8 Games in Detroit (1-7)

The Detroit Red Wings are 1-7 since former Chicago Blackhawks and New York Rangers forward, Patrick Kane’s debut on December 7th, 2023 – but how is HE playing so far amidst the chaos? The answer might surprise you. In this video, I look into Kane’s performance post-hip surgery. My game-by-game review highlights Kane’s journey, team dynamics, and unexpected challenges in Detroit’s early season. Are fans turning on Steve Yzerman’s “Yzerplan”? In this video, you’ll get insights on the team’s on-ice strategies and how Kane’s presence redefines the team dynamic for players like Lucas Raymond, Dylan Larkin, Alex Debrincat and more. The NHL is glad to have Kane back… but Derek Lalonde’s Detroit Red Wings appear to be on the struggle bus. Is there time to right the ship? 1. Curious to read more opinions on Kane's play – or Detroit's. Let me know!

UPDATE: My Brothers in Christ… after this video, the Red Wings gave up another four goal lead to Philadelphia, but St. Patrick Kane graced the team with three points and some shootout magic for a much needed win in Detroit. It's so good to see him healthy and happy.

NOTE: Just so you guys know, I'll be updating the title of this video from what is now ("Red Wings 1-7 with Kane: Is it HIM… or Them?") to something more evergreen at some point soon. Wanted to make this note so the comments section isn't confusing to future viewers.

  2. Itā€™s not Kane. One guy doesnā€™t ruin a 20 man roster. The boys are just playing like ass with no fire or initiative. Usually this happens in January. Just getting a head start.

  3. They lost their captain, their 2nd line center, and David Perron right away. They havenā€™t been able to get their new line combinations set with their normal cast of players.

  4. its definitely them. kane has been solid these 7 games. 2 goals and a couple assists. we lost 4 of our top 6 and weve been playing terrible as a result

  5. Watch any of the games with Kane. He gets the puck and everyone turns into a spectator all of a sudden

  6. Larkin going down in the 1st period of his 1st game and Perron being suspended while Compher getting injured was the bigger problem but he has been +/- minus 5 with 2 goals and 4 assists so he's not making up for those guys being out

  7. It is soo clearly NOT Kane. Refreshing to see people who think the same here. A couple prominent Redwings blogs out there, people are whining and saying it's all because of Kane. That is so ridiculous. One man can't change a D corps that is collapsing in their own zone. We have been without 3-4 of our top lines, and then it takes time for those guys to re-adjust back to where they were. Couple that, with a brutal schedule, the boys have/will by the end of the week, have played 8 games in 13 days. A total of 15 games in December. It has been a combination of many things that have contributed to this slump.

  8. If people think Kane is the problem Your delusional and clueless,heā€™s been our best player since his debut.heā€™s the only one creating good offense.

  9. A multivariate question being posed as a boolean…..you left out so many relevant facts about the events that took place in the Red Wing organization during the time span covered in this video. This is not an analysis. This is a preformulated opinion probably based off another headline read somewhere else. Any Red Wing fan who watches this video and has even paid attention to 10% of what has been happening will think this video is a joke. This question could have made a really good video because the numerous events you excluded to mention are very interesting. Too bad you took the easy route instead of taking the time to make a good video.

  10. Wings fans thought that Kane would be their savior and take them to the promise land šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø
I disagreed and was mocked as a dummy who didn't know hockey. How many wins have they won? Where are they in the standings? šŸ¤”

  11. Definitely them. Same mistakes being made that they've been making all season long, it's just catching up with them now because the scoring dried up somewhat, which was bound to happen eventually, but the loss of half of their top 6 forwards got that ball rolling. The scoring was just bailing them out before, so take that away, and we lose a lot. Bottom line, entire team needs to get better in our own end, especially breakouts of our own zone.

  12. Definitely the overall team play. The Wings have been awful lately in team defense, and Kane is the only one who has provided much offense. The injuries have been a huge factor, but still no excuse for losing to San Jose, Ottawa, and Anaheim. There's a lot of reasons for the Wings recent woes, but Patrick Kane isn't one of them.

  13. Its not kane it's a combination of things, injuries, they played a lot of hockey in a short period, and defensive play has been pretty bad of late

  14. Dumb clickbait. It's the idiot coach who has them go into prevent when they get a lead. He's in over his head.

  15. Wow, I DID NOT endear myself to the Red Wings fans with this video. And I UNDERSTAND, BUT… two things:

    1) I stand by what I said in this video, but I acknowledge my mistake in not providing more of the counterpoints/context beyond what I was looking at on the tape. Lesson learned for next time I do a team-specific video. THANK YOU for watching, commenting, and pushing me to be better.

    2) Although I should have mentioned the injuries, other teams who have depth also have injuries and keep winning. The bottom line is: the team's defense behind Seider is thin and they have goaltending issues. It was a simple diagnosis and I don't think I'm wrong. After this video, Yzerman called up Simon Edvinsson, who I mentioned at the end. Last night (12/22), with Larkin back (for THREE games now) and Perron, they still gave up yet another four goal lead. I also said at the end: plenty of time to right the ship. Let's see what happens!
