Interesting to hear your view. I cannot truly understand his motivation, he has such talent, he has a great mind. He even looks better than me. But my piece of 3 cents.
Only this one episode as Colin introduces in his monologue. does he really upset me. I concede so much to his skills. I know he is not the actor. I know the actor parents are not the originals, What upsets me is the Colin makes a freaking deal about his adoption and plays the fortune he was given into a whine card saying he is always second choice. Colin does not know shit about not being 3rd, or fifth, or 20th or never having any place. I live nearby Turlock. I was doing an annual scholarship event there in 2004-2006, for the 18 county schools; Pitman H.S. included. I went to H.S. in Santa Clara with Steve Bartkowski since 6th grade thru graduation in 1971. He was so much like Colin in all 3 sport. I came in my freshman year with a bigger handicap than he ever had. Smallest kid in school since 6th grade. Not a single kiss from 5th thru graduation. I was 4'9" and 82. pounds in wrestling my freshman year. 4'11 and 88 pounds my sophomore year and put in a trash cansby seniors year raised by a single mom with N O T H I N G but a clean and empty house. Eating cereal and peanut butter jelly sandwiches, no money at all. Alone almost 5 nights a week till I was 18’ Day of graduation I was on my own. I had no home. It was sold. My mom and new husband moved 150 mile away. I was 5'5" then and looked 15 and not even Taco Bell wanted me, I was turned down. No one would hire me and I surely did not expect a girl to take me seriously. Yeah. Joined the Navy at 19, because a job and no college was hopeless, living on my own. I will never have what Colin has, but I also would not say he has E V E R had it rough in comparison to me and 90% of others, at 19 I joined the Navy. Racism; just out of A School still 19, I was jumped and beaten by 5 younger teens in Vallejo Easter Eve 1973. Did that change my unqualified neutral position. No. I am neutral to all people cause they have all hurt me. I am defensive but not offensive, which it seems Colin wants to be. I am sad for him in many ways. He has built too many false walls around making life about race. Life is about ourselves, we our born into a skin. He has a more productive one than me, but I do not think he really appreciates himself at all. He feels he needs the support of a race membership, to make a bigger claim. I cannot belong to anything, never have, never will. I am in my world, I am made of so many nations I had no heritage or culture. I do not identify with most things. I do not have any heroes. I was not capable of being any star in grade school or later or any future. I am not building my reality from what Is on CNN FOX or MSN's NBC’s etc. world. Colin when you take a side you must live among that choice and not expect to win over what you may believe is the opposition. Sports is not life. Political parties are the clearest example of divide. Religon has always been sought and was bred not often chosen; is it a choice? Everything is a series of single choices. It is good he gets this Netflix Series Platform, it speaks about many issue, as filtered by Colin. I am sure he has stirred many emotions and shown some good instances. I feel he does show often how he is affected, and hurt, but he quite often shows how little empathy he had, or perhaps still does. I see Steve Jobs like this too. Yes I did go to Monte Loma Elementary with him in Mountain View, I am a grade older. Yes I did do photography work for him and Woz in 77 & 78. I did see him last at 1st Pixar Shareholders Meeting in SF MOMA near. Moscone. Some people can be brilliant and successful but not see those at their sides or in tertiary roles. They find new friends, they find new behaviors, they change. I just do no like the idea he thinks I would be so lame as to appreciate an Urkle, or Carlton banks, or a J. J. Or Fred Sanford as any symbolization of over a billion people. Ridiculous and to blame me for them being on TV or responsible for the historic past is just sad. I’d be made to hate The Spanish, The Romans The Chinese Emperors. Mankind in general. I know they have all killed each other from era to era ad infinitum. So do I wish to ruin my short life. Colin’s series Black & White offers perspective, I have a Cinema degree, I am open to whatever impact any film has on thoughts and minds. Public opinion is fickle depending on who where and when. SO keep in mind all people can never share ANY 1 opinion and when, forced to not have one, it is called oppression. Based on fear and fear of retaliation. An opinion is not a verdict it is based on a case by case event. We shold be able to see what is right and what is wrong. But history proves mankind is not black or white, it is a spectrum of millons of colors. None better, none worse.
