Thinking the play had been blown dead, the Lightning players, including goalie Jonas Johansson, go to the bench, leaving Johnathan Kovacevic with a wide open net and one strange goal.

Sneaky Montembeault
Too long of a wait from the officiating, music started playing, lights came on, it becomes second nature for the players to skate off especially when goalies get down into the butterfly to swallow the puck. Do your job refs Jesus
Hope the Goalie got an assist.
And they lost as usual.
Lightning need to wake up. There was literaly no lightning player by the goalie
Any they still lost 🙁
That's why you always, always, always, always, always, always, always, always, always, always, play to the whistle boys
that long of a hold wouldve been whistled dead in 99% of games, refs fault in my eyes. Either way tampa shouldnt have just left the ice with no whistle…
This comment section is absolutely hilarious😂
As a former goalie, ever since PeeWee I have been shouted at by Refs to "Play it! Play it!" if there was no offensive skater nearby, and I hadn't made some awkward save where I was prone on the ice. A puck being frozen by the goalie unnecessarily can been seen a lot of times, as a "delay of game" penalty, if the Ref so chooses. How come no one ever mentions this in the "Why did/didn't the Ref…" complaints? You play until the whistle. If whistle not heard, you keep playing no matter what.
Montembeault held the puck for a good 2 secs normally the refs blow the whistle after that long.. that was odd
Interesting.. new tactic… players need to steal the ref's whistles!
I can’t blame the Habs for taking advantage on a silly play. F the refs for not blowing the whistle after it had been held so long and F the Bolts for not listening for the whistle.
That play would have been whistled dead every single time. The fact that the refs actually allowed this "goal" to stand is just proof of inside betting. It's ruining professional sports.
Thats a Dang-its…
Well, if its any consolation, Montreal lost anyways…
Hmmmm…..sketchy.
A different way of looking at this is that this goal shifted the momentum towards Tampa's favor. Immediately after this, Tampa got pissed off and their offense improved while Montreal didn't know how to handle it. Final score 4-3 Tampa.
Gifted a goal and still lost
The NHL officiating has been so bad this year (with all teams, not just Tampa). This drama and game really went well… First of all Anderson charges and elbows Cernak. Glendending comes to Cernak’s aid by drooping the gloves with Anderson and they both threw punches. Glendening got a game misconduct, but somehow someway he entered back in mid third? Now for this stupid goal I can see both sides being that no whistle blew, but players often hear the music more than the whistle. The music went on (because Montembault held the puck long enough to warrant a whistle) and the lights flickered for a faceoff. Great job by the refs in the empty net case and the one with Glendening. Its just so stupid to me that despite these two hurdles and big advantages we still managed to win but people completely ignore the fact that we came back and won, but focus on what they think was solely Tampa’s fault.
could of been the best goalie goal ever!
Just when you thought the reffing couldn't get any worse now they literally don't know how to use their whistles
They played break music
So the ref needed a replay to see if he blew the whistle lol
sneaky sneaky monty 😛
TB got careless
That's a dangit!!
TIL you can hang on to the puck for four seconds and it's not considered icing the play. Even both linesmen get tricked here
nice ref assist i guess, probably the highlight of their season
I watched this game I’m a huge TBL fan the goalie held the puck for 4 SECONDS! The refs said it was a good goal cause no whistle was blown… They have the IQ of literal toddlers. We one 4-3 anyway though sooooooooooooo
The goalie should have had himself a goal!
Tampa 100% deserved this. They tried to withdraw from the play before it was over. If they do not pressure the goalie, the play is not over. Sad but they deserve what they get when they capitulate. "To withdraw from danger, and thereby to involve their comrades in greater perils, is the height of cowardice." Napoleon
The guy who put the music have an assist too! He should be on the best plays of the week!
