Usually the refs will blow quicker when there’s a player going to the net but no one went for it so no hurry to blow it. Maybe play to the whistle next time?

The goalie can get a delay of game penalty for freezing the puck when there is no offensive pressure. It’s a weird way for this to happen since it looked all around like everyone expected a freeze, but it’s actually a good non whistle given the rule.

Bad look for Tampa. You play until you hear a whistle. They should have applied some offensive pressure that would cause the ref to blow the whistle there. They didn’t, and it cost them.

I don’t like the lightning at all but wtf was the ref waiting for? Montembault made no move to show he was going to play the puck until everyone began to skate to the benches. It’s a dead ass play. Very poor officiating.

Oddest play I’ve seen in hockey. Send a forward to challenge the goalie and force the whistle. These refs have not been consistent. Can’t rely on the consistency of what happened the past 100 years.
