Samsonov clears waivers and replacement Hildeby speaks

After goaltender Ilya Samsonov on waivers Sunday, the Maple Leafs have recalled goaltender Dennis Hildeby from the AHL’s Toronto Marlies. Should Hildeby see some game action? Is it a risk to bring him up too soon? TSN’s Gino Reda has more.

  1. Just finished watching PWHL inaugural game New York vs Toronto. Leafs should be pay attention. Many on ice collisions. It was good to see some physical hockey in Toronto for a change. Also Leafs goaltending issues would be solved with Kristen Campbell or Corinne Schroeder. Goaltending's not the biggest issue here. How about an NHL level defensive strategy instead of hanging these guys out to dry.

  2. sometimes guys that get a chance just run with it. Put him in and see what happens and when Woll is healthy send him back to finish the season out with the Marlies, unless he turns into 1972 ken Dryden then just ride him to a cup win. Hildeby is a no-lose situation. 5 games in the show won't hurt his development and if he just grabs it and goes the team wins big. Jones is at best a temporary solution to the Samsonov problem and playing him in back to back situations is risking an injury that we cant afford

  3. This is what happens when you put all yoru money and attention in the front end. Both of these GM's are braindead. Need someone to bring a better balance to the team and I would consider moving one of the big 3 to bring in better D and goalie. Marner or Nylander should be on the chopping block. I dont like to move em but at this point they need to if they want to win a cup.

  4. Why didn't they go for Halak? It would cost nothing in trades. They are about to stunt the kids development

  5. Too early imo. Makes me nervous. Can’t rush goaltenders even with a situation like this where our original starter and backup are both unavailable.

  6. Nobody's saying 5'10" 18yr old Bedard is just a kid. It's only a pressure cooker in the medias eyes. Give the 22yr old goalie a chance. Samsonov is the reason the Leafs are where they are in the standings.
