Isn’t that a leap in causation?

    Maybe he’s just slower now

    Maybe he’s lazy now

Maybe he is in worse shape, cause he’s spoiled

  2. ..it doesn’t for every other top line forward

  3. I notice he doesn’t join the rush as much with Knies on the wing. In the past it was him and Matthews flying up the ice, but now it is usually Knies and Matthews with Marner hanging back as the high forward. Marner isn’t normally getting involved until a cycle is started.

I wonder if that plays into this a bit since he also wouldn’t need to skate back as hard / fast if he is already in the play defensively.

Is there a place to see this graph with the names on mousehover? I’d love to dive in other leaf players and the league outliers. This is the coolest graph I’ve seen in a long time.

Maybe it’s because he got married? Theoretically the best players are the least balanced in life and obsessed with their craft. The more balance you have with other things like a wife, life, kids etc, the worse you would be expected to be at your craft

I wonder about all the core 4 and this metric. The core 4 play a lot and the Leafs have a LOT of overtime visits. I wonder if that adds up over time.

  7. Tre, please, please, please do not re-sign this player.

Nobody here suggests a lingering lower body injury. I get he’s a soft player and has lost the benefit of doubt in the fan eyes but no way you can drop off like that into your prime. My guess is a knee or quad injury.

Nah, teams are finally in real hockey mode, where the physicality ramps up, and we all know how allergic Mitch is to physical contact, so this about the time he decides to pack it up and plan his summer trip

Skating has never really been a strong suit for Marner, but that’s surprising to see him in the slowest quadrant.
